Police in Udon Thani in Thailand's north east are looking for at least two competent Thai electricians.

They believe that professionals are behind the removal of a 200,000 baht transformer and the theft of all its valuable copper wire.

Pol Capt Niwat Jaengkrathoke of the Muang district police responded after locals in Ban Sam Phrao in the sub-district of Sam Phrao found the transformer unscrewed from a pole and left by the side of a weir 1 km from the village.

Local official Sakchai Donchada said it was the work of professionals who know very well about electrical matters.

The 22,000 volt transformer is still usable.

It is not known when the incident occurred but police noted it was away from the village making it easier for the thieves to be unobserved.

Investigations will continue once a formal report is made to the police.

I've got the unedited version if you'd like to see (send me a message).

It doesn't go well for this guy, he falls down in a burnt, black mess.

They took all the copper from the transformer and it is still usable?

Legit question.

After reading the original article it is clear they broke up the transformer and stripped all copper from the coils. So what is still usable? Part of the housing?

They got mine a few years ago two runs of about 100m. Woke up sweating no aircon . I replaced it with aluminum wire which is way cheaper but you have to ask for it as they like to hide it in the back.

I got the headman to announce it on his PA system so the thieves would not come back.

Last year someone stole my copper radio ham antenna wire from my garden as I was actually transmitting!  All was working and then the antenna 'match' went haywire.  Looked out of the window and there was the guy running off with my wire!!
