As daily COVID-19 infections continue to decline, optimism is growing that the disease will soon be designated as endemic, with the Ministry of Public Health now expecting the transition to occur half a month earlier than previously anticipated.

 

Dr Kiatiphum Wongrajit, permanent secretary for Public Health, said the COVID situation is continuing to show improvement. Health agencies are therefore being asked to prepare plans for accommodating the disease’s transition into endemic status.

 

Dr Kiatiphum also indicated that Omicron symptoms in Thailand have been less severe than seasonal flu, with most of the infected either being asymptomatic or exhibiting typical flu-like symptoms. He added that vaccination coverage has also been increasing at a constant rate.

The permanent secretary further noted that preparations are being made to look after patients with long COVID. The Department of Medical Services has established a preliminary screening and diagnosis guideline, as well as a system for following up on patients’ conditions.

 

Dr Kiatiphum also said data on long COVID patients will be collected either on a weekly or monthly basis. Additionally, meetings with chief provincial public health officers and hospital directors will be held so that efforts on this front can proceed at a similar pace.

 

Dr Kiatiphum added that more restrictions will be lifted so people can live almost as before, but under new normal requirements. Face masks will be required in poorly ventilated areas or crowded spaces, as well as while in contact with patients. Sanitation management at various sites will also remain subject to some disease control requirements.

Time was that tourists came to Thailand to be entranced by the famous Thai smile. In the future, it looks like they'll be coming here for the nostalgic joy of being forced to wear face masks again, lol. Welcome to the LOFM!

I wonder what plans have to be mAde to treat it as endemic. Just don’t make any special arrangements and treat it as you would any other illness, seems to cover most bases.

 

on the other hand, getting all the bleep bleep machines out of 7-11 will be a significant challenge ????

I do t understand why they continue to cling to Covid.  We keep getting requests to get a third vaccine/booster.  Not going to happen.

This is the good news I've been waiting to hear. Masks off when outdoors. I'd like to seem them gone altogether at least there's some progress.

It looks like covid is coming back in USA as kids are having to wear their masks in some schools again. So you better hurry taking off the restrictions. Also would that apply to us as well or just Thai's? Sorry just asking.

If we don't have to wear masks I will have to go back to trimming my nose hairs, shaving every day & brushing my teeth!

Just few days ago, Anutin said that there is absolutely no mention to declare the covid endemic on July 1st and now someone says that it will probably be half a month earlier ... it's nice to see that they have clear ideas and above all that hey follow a common line ...

Within our Isaan village of some 1700, total population, we have had about 450 cases over the past fortnight including my step daughter and most of TWs extended family.

Firstly this tells me that the govt. reporting is absolute BS but confirms the symptoms are very mild. We put step daughter (23 yo) in isolation for 4 days until she returned 2 x negative RAT results. Only had a mild sore throat as with the rest.

Last time i returned to Thailand from Malaysia last month the female IO looked at my Thai address and said "why are you in Thailand, you shouldn't be here", charming, land of smiles my a£se

Only thing is the MoneyPox is not an RNA virus making it harder to infect humans like the coronavirus.

No need to wait for " Endemic "  that is just another label like Thailand Pass, SandBox,   here is one today we go back to living and if you want to continue wearing a mask, use alcohol, check my temperature no problem ???? 

But time to start living get rid of the damn thing and one should get the airport ready so visitor don't need to wait hours.

Glad they've finally admitted it. I've been saying this since the beginning of the year but the basic statistics were deliberately ignored.

At least street robbery figures in CCTV area's should plummet with the no-mask rule....
