PM blames reduced education budget on fewer students due to declining birth rate

This man would say or do anything, to avoid taking responsibility, for a problem he has created, an issue he has not addressed, or one of his dozens of failures. It is about trying to save face. It comes down to perhaps the single most significant weakness most Thai people have. The pathological fear of losing face. Who cares what people think of you? For those of us with high self esteem, it just does not matter. It means nothing what they think, nor what they say about you. Nothing, less than zero. Face is rife with self doubt, and by subscribing to this weakness, and man or woman is made a far lesser person. I consider the practice of face to be the polar opposite of the practice of Buddhism, which teaches the need for introspection, contemplation, owning up to a problem, and taking responsibility for issues, problems and tragedies that you create in life.

As many of us know, a percentage of the Thai population lives within fairly small boxes, of social convention, traditions and expectations, especially on the part of the family. That is not a life that some of us choose. Those that are bold and courageous, will find a way to break past conventions, and live a fulfilling life, based on their own choices, independence, and esteem.

So my message to the administration is this. Man up. Admit you messed this one up badly. Admit education could have been improved on your watch. You failed, and you will pay a high price for that failure, hopefully.

As the population declines Thailand needs to spend more to raise the education standard to keep up with more technologically advanced countries. It may not be the case now of how much is budgeted but how efficienly is it expended. Are they getting better quality young people? Are young people capable of leading the country in the future?

Worse is the disappearance of funds as we hear in the media. Teachers gamble, get in debt for luxuries and money goes missing.

Unless the government manages education more efficiently the money just disappears into a black hole.

How big do you think the Thai Army should be and what jobs should the Thai Army be doing ?

Less than 75,000 people (male and female) and a fully professional military. Sack all but 50 generals and so on down through the ranks. Get rid of conscription completely. They are of no real use in peace time.

Expand the Engineers and the Medical Service.

Thailand has not fought a major war in over 70 years and no other country is really interested in invading Thailand and the current military would be worse than useless in defending the country.

Perhaps if teachers were "audited" yearly for competence and paid a living wage, then matters may improve over a short period, and lower the gambling/debt ratio

I understand budgets adjusted ….. but in the case of Education there should be additional funds so all

children have a starting chance through education. How many teenage children are ready to face the

world at 14-15 years old. None in any country. I can only speak of Isaan because I’m not familiar or seen first hand the school systems.

At bare minimum all children should have the opportunity to go to school with proper education until

Mattayom 6. In the long run it could help reduce the number prisoners due to lack of education.
