Over 3,000 convicted of cannabis-related offenses in Thailand to be freed Thursday

More than 3,000 people serving prison terms for offences related to cannabis or hemp are to be released tomorrow (Thursday) when the announcement of the Public Health Ministry, removing the two plants from the country’s Category 5 narcotics list, becomes effective.

 

Justice Minister Somsak Thepsuthin said today that there are currently 4,075 people serving terms in prisons across the country, after being convicted of drug abuse offenses related to cannabis or hemp.

 

Of these, he said there are 1,004 who were also convicted of other offences, and they will not benefit from the change in the law and will have to serve out their terms for the other offences. The courts will, however, amend their verdicts to expunge the convicts of the cannabis or hemp related convictions.

An example of decency , compassion,  justice  and common sense. It's welcome but does not go  far enough. Meanwhile  in the USA black men are imprisoned  for possession of Mariuna possession members  of Joe Bidens team. Kamala Harris who giggled when asked if she smoked pot put 300 black men in prison for dope offences.

Those laws are terrible .

The USA really needs to make it illegal for everyone not to use marijuana ,not just black men

I guess they will do an abrupt 180 and make it illegal again. They will do this as the police are unable to properly extort people, and lots of people paid huge sums of money to be able to cruise around extorting hapless farangs. They will be crying about this loss of revenue.

 

If I see a kilo of premium heads for sale locally Ill just go ahead and buy it. Should keep me amused for a year. Nothing on facebook marketplace yet. On the 1st day kratom was legalized it was crazy on facebook, wonder why this is different?

And let’s not forget alcohol, tobacco and porn; processed, fat, sweet and salty food and beverages. Way to go. Thank god at least prostitution is illegal there.

You can answer the question of why somebody would spend a large sum of money to buy a police position. Not because they like the uniform. And I literally cant remember the last time somebody accused me of spreading a conspiracy theory that wasnt later proven factual.

Where does it say that policemen buy positions to “cruise around extorting hapless farangs [for weed]”?
