Man Found Dead with Head Wounds & Body Covered in Banana Leaves in Don Mueang
Picture from responders. Police in Don Mueang are investigating the mysterious death of an unidentified man, whose body was discovered covered with banana leaves along the side of a road near Khamphaeng Phet 6 Road. The gruesome discovery was made on the afternoon of November 28 near the flats of the Airports Authority of Thailand in Don Mueang district. Pol. Lt. Col. Thawisak Boonsit of Don Mueang Police Station received the report and, along with senior officers and forensic experts, arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. The body was found at the base of a Red Line railway column, labeled 304 AL, in a grassy area about one metre below road level. Items discovered nearby included a blue football jersey, a gray T-shirt, and a black shoulder bag, all stained with blood. A concrete block bearing bloodstains was also found hidden between columns, suspected to be the weapon used in the attack. The deceased, a dark-complexioned, heavyset male, was wearing a blue T-shirt and blue shorts. The victim’s forehead bore a severe wound, consistent with being struck by a blunt object. His body was covered with three banana leaves, likely taken from a nearby banana tree approximately 50 metres away. Mr. Banjong, 57, the first person to find the body, recounted that he was walking from Yaowarat to catch a bus home to Yasothon around 14.00. As he passed the railway columns, he noticed flies swarming around a cluster of banana leaves. Suspecting something unusual, he saw the tip of a human foot sticking out and immediately sought help. He encountered another passerby, Mr. Songdej, 45, and together they confirmed the body before reporting it to Don Mueang Police Station. Pol. Col. Surapong Thamphithak, Deputy Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 2, stated that the identity of the victim is still unknown, as no identification documents were found. Preliminary forensic evidence points to head trauma as the cause of death, and investigators have collected potential evidence, including the suspected murder weapon, for further analysis. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area and interviewing witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the murder. -- 2024-11-29 -
