snoop1130 Posted June 20, 2022 Share Posted June 20, 2022 Abundant garbage and household grease have been found in the sewers in Bangkok’s Huai Kwang area, on the first day of clearing the city’s drainage system by prisoners, to curb the persistent flooding problem especially during the current rainy season. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, who observed the clearing operation in front of a wet market in Huai Kwang, said that he will seek cooperation from households by reducing the discharge of grease from their kitchens into the drains. He also said that there should be a space to store the grease, so it can be disposed of before it ends up in the drains and, along with garbage, blocks the flow of waste water, resulting in flooding on road surfaces during heavy rainfall. He also said he wants to stop people selling garlands etc at red lights because it makes Thailand's economy look bad. My mistake, just looked at definition of a sewer and it includes both. I used to design sewers, the sanitary waste type, and never referred to stormwater drains as a sewer. I live in an expensive street in Lumphini that smells like poo-poo at certain times. expensive-smelling poo-poo. but it doesn't seem to bother the local "hi-sos", I guess because they never wind down the windows of their BMWs or Ferraris ???? RobU Posted June 21, 2022 Share Posted June 21, 2022 In the UK there are regular reports of Huge 'Fat (Grease) Balls' blocking sewers each subsequent one being the largest yet found. Fat balls are a fact of life in modern sewage systems. One of the main maintenance tasks is to find them and break them up. xtrnuno41 Posted June 21, 2022 Share Posted June 21, 2022 Do the workers get paid? Are they protected from H2S ? Otherwise the pile, blockages gets bigger. Maybe better to replace sewage and make it bigger, so they say climate is changing and more and bigger rains will fall.
