Thailand-  The Thai Government, in a late-night order released around 10:00 P.M. on June 23rd, 2022, has dropped a divisive mask mandate in all public areas.

 

The mandate previously required one to wear masks in all public places, even outdoors or alone.

 

The wordage of the legally binding Royal Gazette order is as follows, in a summary and not a word-for-word translation:

 

The Ministry of Public Health has moved to wear a mask or cloth mask as a voluntary practice.

Well that is certainly a move in the right direction as most of the civilized world has already done. A good, but belated move but as they say , better later than never.

 

My only thoughts now are what is going to be the next move by this unpopular government to scare the poorly educated populace to kowtow to this governments flights of fancy ?

I don't see this making much of a difference where I am (Samutprakarn).

As we are in an industrial area, locals were wearing masks long before Covid.

Also, wearing a mask here seems to be seen as a sign of respect to everyone around you.

I can go years (literally) without seeing another westerner in this area, so there will be no outside influences.

 

I think that it is obvious that masks will be ditched (in the main) in tourist areas but it will be interesting to see how this goes down here.

It will also be interesting to see how Bangkok reacts, with a mix of tourists and full time residents.

 

I will probably carry on wearing a mask when in the company of other mask wearers, just to be polite.

 

 

 

 

I'm going to be surprised if you can mange to get inside a shopping mall without wearing one.

 

A while back (summer 2021) people started to take them off while inside the malls but for sure they had them on to get past the security checkpoint.

 

Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Let's hope it will not lead to more infection as much as i hate those facial rags but in many countries there are thousands who are still get infected on a daily bases so much so that it clogs hospital beds and keep key personals from going to work, and i'm not talking about third world countries...

7-11 has the worst ... in Thailand......They love to scream and yell at the maskless there..

Locals continue to wear it until someone asks them not to or rather force them to not wear. People been conditioned to follow instructions without debating the merits or lack thereof.

Wow; first came marijuana, then no masks. Women of the night will be paying tax next. ????

I depends what you mean by maskless......I do the old under the chin mask wearing and no one has said a word to me for at least a year in a shopping mall..

And the public have also the right not to bother to go there, or at least walk in in large numbers and then remove their masks in protests and I doubt the dumbos that pretend to be security would have the balls to do anything about.

the question will be everywhere no matter outside or inside. private or public. with such conditioning over the past few years it will cause frustrations between people.

pretty much 99% of people I know have had covid.

 

A handful had the sniffles and a tickly throat, the rest nothing.

 

Why are hospital beds being clogged ?

 

I stopped wearing masks months ago except for places like supermarkets/7-11's/hardware stores etc etc.

Finally.  I'll be one of the 10% who will actually take it off.  My guess is that the majority of Thais will voluntarily continue to wear one pretty much forever.

in patong beach many 7/11 and family marts do not bother tourists with this mask nonsense, nice to see normal life is coming back at least at some places.

Eeeerm, that's because up until now the mask mandate has been in force.

7-11 staff would have been told that no one was allowed to enter without a mask on.

They were just doing there jobs.

Anyone who attempts to enter a 7-11 without a mask on, knowing that this will cause a problem, is just a Assh@le for making the jobs of the lowly paid and overworked staff just that little bit harder.

 

In fact, please tell us why you attempted to enter a 7-11 without a mask on, despite knowing that it was not allowed.

Well Family Mart have not given a rats azz for a while now if you wear a mask or not but 7-11 is pretty much the only place left that enforces masks any more...

Thai motorbike riders will continue to wear them instead of helmets.

I'm not advocating for the continuation of mask wearing but let everyone knows that we're far away from winning this Covid battle, read more international news and you'll understand my point...

Dam this means I'll have to shave every morning. 

Geez, a week ago I was never coming back to Thailand until they dropped the Thai Pass, covid insurance and mask mandate...now I have no excuse ????
