About 3 years ago I remember ordering a taxi from jomtien to patpong Bangkok, the driver took forever to get there,left at around 1130am and arrived about 230pm

 

It was a long ride ,I don't want to repeat that considering I got to Pattaya in a hour 

Is there 2 ways to Bangkok?

 

On another note I can't fathom why farangs get the bus from jomtien to airport just to save a 1000 b?

 

I spokr to a guy yesterday, no baht buses coming along so he is telling me he is going to bus station to go to airport,anyway waiting like 10 mins some didn't stop some overflowing so he started  walking sweating walking  up the hill going towards the bus station  from the jomtien complex wheeling his luggage carrying his carry bag , looking back continually trying to get a baht bus to go to the bus station..so he will pay 10b for the baht bus ( if he got one yesterday afternoon they were non existent) then another 140 b for the bus !

 

Wouldn't it be easier just to pay the extra 1000 b for a air conditioning car to the airport?

I mean some of these guys tip in bars frivolous but won't spend a extra money on getting to the airport comfortable

Sure, but it beats my why and I'm saying in his case ,but why spend money on bars, tipping , etc and then get the bus to the airport, going thru all that trouble in the heat.

As for the route the taxi took to me 3 hours ,can you guys advise what route he took so I don't need to go thru a slow painful 3 hours and I can assure you he definitely didn't get a tip!

You went the scenic route...be greatful...and who says the guy spends his money in bars and tipping...you think too much about others let them do what they want to do no concern of yours.

Depends time of day, traffic can be bad at times. Book with private car service for Bangkok, set rate, I'm sure he or she will take shortest route.

Patts beach to Silom is 130-150 kms away.

BKK airport to Patts is 120 kms.

Maybe it was an Uber. 

Simple and easy from North Pattaya bus station, buses are air conditioned and safer than other vehicles. I ride my motorbike there, get the bus 119 baht to Ekkamai then get BTS, can get off before Ekkamai. Easy

Monday will be my 3rd trip to Bangkok this month (normally go twice a month) so the 3x2,000 THB (1,000 each way) saving is not to be sniffed at.

 

GF prefers the bus over taxis as she feels safer & we always get of at Udom Suk BTS station to avoid the traffic on Sukhumvit Road.

 

Going to/coming from the Airport we now use Nam’s taxi (1,000 THB including tolls) but that’s once or twice every few months.

I have caught the Jomtien bus to the airport. It is very comfortable, quick and easy.  Why pay 1000 baht when you are in no hurry to go anywhere? Also, the girls on the bus are prettier than the old, fat taxi driver. 

I never take the bus again.  Sometimes waiting up to an hour for your bus, the air conditioning cannot be adjusted or closed on many of the buses you have to stuff a piece of paper in the vent to stop it,  the toilets are not well kept and the smell can permeate throughout the bus, people on their phones the constant ding ding of Line apps, they are usually full so to say they are not crowded is false, the stability of them seems poor get a seat toward the back and you can feel the sway back in forth, they are slower and can take 15 to 20 minutes more.

Makes so much more sense to pay 30 bucks for a taxi.  Can stop at the big food/rest area about half way for a coffee and toilet.

But, people seem very cheap here.  Maybe the cheapest people I have every met are in Pattaya but hey as they say, to each their own.

My regular driver is an attractive lady. Why waste time with a bus? I have a driver waiting at gate 3, easy peasy japanesy

Amongst the worst drivers on the roads.

I spend half my time in Pattaya and then go central plains.

Buses are wonderful.

119 to Ekkamai, BTS 59 baht and then 140 to house mid Thailand.

Simples. Not Cheap Charlie, just economical and time is not a problem.

That is just how long it takes... Bkk has traffic to deal with.. 

 

And how do you know that that 1 guy is a barfly and big tipper... ?? Maybe he just isn't as rich as you are- - people prioritize and spend their money where they want, not where you want...

The Nth Pattaya to Ekkamai bus drivers which is what we are talking about drive safely, I've never had a speeding driver, always smooth. What's your experience of that bus service?

Perfect. Done the Ekkamai trips to BKK probably 50 times over near on 10 years.

BTS straight updoors and off ya go.

Many trips earlier were to Southern prior to them closing bus service to and from Pattaya.

If people are in a hurry, join the Thai drivers.

I was in a bar and met a fellow American and he proceeded to tell me of his taxi trauma, he said he was on the motorway and the taxi driver was going super fast and the American was shouting at him to slow down, I asked how fast was he going, "100 miles per hour", I asked, how do you know it was 100 mph?
