New Omicron Subvariants Will Spread Across Thailand Shortly

WHILE the new Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5 are expected to spread across the country from end of August to early September infection rate will not increase significantly as is currently occurring in European countries, TV Channel 7 quoted the head of Ramathibodi Hospital’s Centre for Medical Genomics as saying yesterday (July 1).

 

Prof. Emeritus Dr. Wasan Chantrathit said data from Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID) showed that while the number of Europeans infected with BA.4 and BA.5 strains had climbed but not very steeply so, the mortality rate remained comparable to the early stages of  BA.1 and BA. 2 outbreaks.

 

“Looking at Portugal, previously there was an alarming increase in the number of BA.4 and BA.5 cases but now the graph is starting to slide.

The 1 in 30 testing positive is for England, not Wales. Though prevalence rates were similar in Wales and Northern Ireland. This figure is taken from an ONS survey of randomly tested people who were tested and needed to be informed that they'd had one of the variants. 

 

So what does this mean? According to the UK's Daily Mail: "Hospital admissions have trebled in the last month, piling pressure on an already overwhelmed NHS, although only a fraction of patients are primarily ill with the disease." It's worth noting that the detail is in the wording. So the hospital admissions are not from Covid, but are patients being tested as a matter of due diligence when receiving treatment for other ailments, and as a consequence are being included in the hospital Covid admission figures. And the reason for an "already overwhelmed NHS" is due to the huge backlog of patients waiting for elective care due to the long lockdowns in the first place. 

 

There was a funny article from yesterday's Daily Mail (online) instructing people how to spot the difference from summer hey fever and one of the new variants. Basically, the new variants are so mild they could be mistaken for summer hey fever. The guide was meant as a scaremongering piece, but it ended having the complete opposite effect.

BA.4 has escaped immunity.  The antigens for earlier variants are not effective in stopping it.  There is a large wave of hospitalizations and deaths in NSW (Australia.)  Most of the victims had three or four shots.  The antigens that people who have recovered from earlier variants carry are not effective in stopping BA.4 and BA.5.   In the words of Dr. Fauci, who was sickened twice, there was "an immune escape."   In Dr. Fauci's case, although he recovered once, he was soon sickened again.  It seems that reinfection is a feature of BA.4 & BA.5.  Pfizer is supposedly working on a vaccine to protect against the new variants.   Many people in Thailand will probably get one of the new variants.  I wish that I weren't so old.  I'm taking my vitamin D and wearing my mask and hoping that I won't have bad symptoms when I get it.

Alternative media is reporting that the mRNA vaccine may fix the antibody response so that the immune system cannot properly respond to variants. Apparently, this may have messed up the typical natural cycle whereby viruses decline in virulence over time. They are predicting that there is a high risk of a more deadly version emerging affecting the mRNA vaccinated. Make of that what you will, ravings of a madman or whatever, but for those interested Jacob Dreizin has a video outlining his concerns on the Rumble platform (obviously would be banned on YouTube).

Perhaps because "Thai omicron not same-same Farang omicron", which would be totally in line with the shrewd observation "Thai electricity not same-same Farang electricity" offered to me by local electricians on numerous occasions when I insisted that they should earth the electrical appliance that they had just installed for me.

I had it about 2 weeks ago after visiting friends in London. I had the same symptoms as you except for the blinding headache. In addition, I had a slight runny nose (not constant or anything), but mostly a hacking cough and spewing up phlegm combined with chills and fatigue. It wasn't that bad; mild would be my own definition of the experience. It only lasted 5 days max, but I could still get about with ease when I had it. Just for the record, I'm aged sixty and not particularly fit.
