Purple Reddish Mark on my Hand.

When I was in the UK recently, I discovered this purple reddish mark on the back of my hand, it was about an inch in diameter but wasn't exactly a circle, after about 2 days it completely disappeared.

Anyone know what could have caused it?

As you age the skin becomes thinner and you are more easily bruised. The fat layer under the skin deminishes that used to provide a degree of padding.

 

Sound like nothing more than a bruising especially as it disappeared so relatively quickly.????

Why is easy bruising so common in older adults ?

Most bruises form when small blood vessels (capillaries) near the skin's surface are broken by the impact of a blow or injury — often on the arms or legs. When this happens, blood leaks out of the vessels and initially appears as a dark mark. Eventually the body reabsorbs the blood, and the mark disappears.

When you have a bruise and you press on it you feel a pain, but no matter how hard I pressed on it there was no pain at all. I don't ever remembering hurting it in any way.

Not all bruising has pain associated.

I sometimes get coloured marks on the back of my hands - normally when entering a club, or getting a pass out.  They take a day or 2 to wear off..

Indeed - a few days after MRI in old model with little room my arm (inside unit as could not keep above head) would have massive bruising marks but no discomfort (just from pressure on it for the 2-3 hours in the machine).  New larger unit does not seem to be an issue.

Why is is that farang are pretty much universally hypochondriacs. "Something is gonna kill me for sure.  Probably this Red Mark on my hand!  Egads!"

Relax.  You may want to check with others on these forums for skin care specialists.  Sheryl may be able to steer you to someone who can give you a professional analysis. 
If you are a pasty white forang, well then yeah.  Skin cancer is something that should be on your radar.  I've gotten annual checks even here.  And then I discovered that the guy I was seeing sucked (I won't go into why).  You need to check around to find a good skin doctor in Thailand who actually understand the issues that pasty-white people have when it comes to sun.

Worry is the worst.  So don't worry.  What I'd do from experience is - 1) Get a professional opinion, then 2) get a second professional opinion.  Then relax.  Enjoy life.

If I go to a specialist and there is nothing there, and there isn't, he will send me away with directions to the pay counter. The time to see a specialist  or anyone is if it comes back.

I have had the same for many years now. It is called "Purpura", nothing to worry about.

Mine only lasted about two days, there is absolutely no sign of now.
