In TH, they need to chill it to keep the gas (and hence the pour) under control otherwise you end up with a Guinness fire extinguisher. 'Irish stout Guinness must be served exactly 42 degrees from the equator, according to Roarty.Quality-control teams at the company say that the temperature should be 8 degrees, and not 50 degrees, as it seems. When used at a higher temperature, a creamy tan head with “yellows and hicks” looks like.' https://acdc-beverage.com/what-temperature-should-guinness-beer-be-served-at/ Cold Guinness is a new thing. When were taught to pour Guinness we held the glass so the Guinness landed on the thumb to bring it to the correct temperature. Watneys Red Barrel, a keg beer was the nadir in the history of British beer. How could I be so wrong or have at least a so different taste than the majority ? I mean, I had the Watneys BEFORE I went to Amsterdam ????. This makes me even more eager to try it again if I would see it but they do not have it in Central where they really display a large selection of different brands. As well as Red Barrel being phased out maybe the company changed its name to Wilsons. Part of the Job of CAMRA was to educated people palates. It took 48 years now even young people know real ale is a living organic drink not carbon dioxide filled brown water.

A British real ale from the midlands I would chracterize my wife and myself as real gourmets who have eaten everything from self-caught rat on a stick up to the highest Michelin decorated restaurants in France and Spain etc. But it is never too late to get our palates educated further - so - where do I get this Old Speckled Hen ? Then I know how a real British ale should taste. After all I am only German and know little about beer (sorry - ale, real British ale to be precise).

OSH, used to be leg collapsing stuff but they reduced ABV from 5.2% to 4.5% in the keg version to make it more sessionable according to Moreland brewery who brew it. Thank you. How about your Speckled Hen ? Any hint where this could be tasted in Thailand ? On a side note I regard Weihenstephaner Vitus to be one of the best beers available in Thailand. Guinness used to be brewed both in Park Royal, London and in Dublin. The water of course was different, so some said the Liffey gave the Dublin brew a better taste. Now Park Royal has closed so U.K. Guinness comes only from Dublin.
