Seems to be a global(ist) putsch against farmers and farming in many countries, as seen (by massive protests) in the Netherlands now.

Expect some steep price hikes shortly.

Beginning of the year I was buying the Cathedral cheddar cheese from Villa.  THB 209 for 350g.  Surprised me that Villa was then one of the cheapest around for cheddar of decent (enough) quality.  Now it's THB 330 for the same pack, a 50% increase in price.  It actually makes the imported stuff at Central Food Hall cheaper.  I suspect there will be a lot more steep price hikes as old stock runs out and the latest shipments of imports start to hit the shelves.

You could of course buy imported mature cheddar, along with many others at 450 baht/kg + delivery

Fine if you like NZ , I prefer mature English Cheddar

You wrote "Imported mature cheddar". No mention of English nor it's provenance.

Is all Mature English cheddar of the same quality? I also enjoy a good quality British cheddar. Duchy Organic is creamy, buttery and tasty....though pricey in Thailand.

Same. Related to butter.

If you are referring to Homefresh Gold:

57% milk cream (41% fat, 16% milk) Butter Oil 41% • Maltodrextrin 0.7% • Emulsifier (INS-471, INS-475) 1.3%

That's not butter as I know it.

Compare it to a standard product bought in the U.K.

https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/kerrygold-pure-irish-butter-250g

Cream,

Salt (1.8%)

Thanks, I have not seen the packaging close up but it says 100 % Butter ,

most of the other "Butters" are a mixture of other stuff ,butter

oil, milk powder , ???  Orchid are supposed to have a 100 %

butter too but it's nearly 800 Baht for 2 Kg. , I am old enough

to remember  those old  grocery shops ,in the window big barrel of

real butter from Denmark,  I don't know whether its my taste buds

but nothing seems to taste like it used too .

Actually the Mainland Vintage cheese is matured for 24 months and has that crumbly texture that you only get with a well matured cheddar.

I'm originally from the UK and I would thoroughly recommend it.

It is good value too at about 259 baht for a 470 gram block.

Where does one find these large blocks of Mainland cheese, I seem to remember someone mentioning Makro but my local Makro doesn’t stock it.
Best I have is Big C with the Tasty , Mature Cheddar and Vintage varieties  but at 209 baht for 250 gr I feel i am missing out !!

It's not 100% butter and it's not butter as you know it. Even though it states 100% on the outside, the ingredients prove otherwise.

https://www.centuryhousedairy.com

The closest thing they have to butter is their Lactic Butter and even that is not 100%:

• Milk cream 98%
• Maltodrextrin 0.7%
• Emulsifier (INS-471, INS-475) 1.3%

In the past I tried using Orchid in my cooking but it leaves a nasty aftertaste.

It's the same taste that is left in your mouth after eating cheap Thai pasties, 7-11's cheaper croissants, etc.

Decent butter in Thailand is damn expensive but if you want your cooking to be edible.............

Orchid is also not 100% butter, but a butter 'blend'.

On the Makro click web page they have the Orchid blends , but also

one 2 kg pack Orchid which  they say is 100 % butter, its 782 Baht so might be ?

Do you know anyone selling real butter at sensible price in Thailand. ?

But it isn't, unless you count a product containing butter oil and skimmed milk as butter.

Their butter blend contains 37% butter oil and their '100%' butter contains 80% butter oil.

If you want it to taste as you remember, you'll need to spend more on the 'good' stuff.

Butter actually made from fresh double cream, as opposed to a mix of ingredients that resembles butter.

I remember a thread recently about butter and where to buy at reasonable prices but do not see it. Maybe someone can attach a link. Bakery club in Ang Sila has a very good selection of imported butter. I asked my wife to check current prices.
