Hi

Just to let everyone know that my girlfriend recently had her Australian defacto partner migration visa approved.

As this visa is seldom talked about here's what happened.

Similar to "Smako's" prospective marriage application Wanida was the case officer.

We applied by appointment direct at the Embassy but when my girlfriend went in Wanida was of sick so she saw a different Thai lady.

This lady advised that this visa was extremely difficult to obtain and it would have been better if we had property together - yeah sure this is common when your girlfriend has only been to australia on a visitor visa over the last 12 months.

Anyway more documentation was required to be submitted - english translations of her id, birth certificate and her daughter's birth certificate (even though her daughter was not applying at this time)

An appointment was made for an interview 6 days later and the extra info was provided.

She had a short interview with an Australian guy (he spoke fluent thai) and she then left to catch the bus for a 4 hour trip back home.

Just when she was in a taxi going to the bus station the embassy rang her and asked where the hel_l she was as they told her to wait in reception.

She turned around and yahoo the visa was approved, passport stamped and ready for collection - a total of 6 days!!

Thanks to everyone on the forum for all the advice given and good luck to everyone else applying.

Congratulations on obtaining a de-facto category visa. You and I have both been successful in this category but you got yours a lot quicker.

Wishing you both a happy future together. :o
