Trump under investigation for potential violations of Espionage Act

Why hasn't Trump already been arrested? If he had in his procession all the top secret papers with nuclear info and such why isn't he behind bars already? Surely the FBI and others have had enough time to take inventory of docs retrieved  from Trump's pad. We can't let such a criminal roam free who's a menace.

The US is so divided now that nothing can save it. It's pretty obvious isn't it? It began before Trump was elected. It may not be civil war but the left will never accept anything other then what they want so of course how can the US, as we knew it, continue. The term that many used a couple of years ago didn't help either: "He's not my president."

The current administration has given Xi quite a happy time knowing that he can take Taiwan whenever, not to mention the US and Putin a fairly strong currency etc. Global trade is ruined and without it there will be no peace.

This is what we leave our children! This blame game is pathetic.

You're right.  If Trump was just an ordinary citizen, he'd be behind bars already.  But he's an ex-Prez.  So...kid gloves, protocol, respect for the office, politics....all that.

I think all need to recognize that “The Donald” should have the boom lowered and be called to account without question but … no one should miss the fact that he gained support because he gave voice to the pent up justified frustration/anger within the American working class. Unless/until the underlying cause of that frustration/anger is addressed, the madness continues. I escaped to live a comfortable working middle class retirement in a lower cost country. How many of my “Baby Boomer” generation are in or face a retirement under the reality of economic stress. They join my childrens’ generation who are working middle class and economically stressed. Lose belief in the fairness of a system and you have lost the USA.

Well he would have to be found guilty first by a jury of his peers? So I agree, if he gets charged, goes to court, gets found guilty of something he should get whatever the judge deals him. But until then surely he is Innocent?

I think you mean "white working class". But apart from that, you're  right. But the thing is, that what Trump and the Republican party do is gain the support of these people through red meat issues while passing laws and appointing judges that make the wealthy and powerful even more wealthy and powerful. But it's not so immediately emotional in its appeal to say that Trump reduced the depreciation term of real estate from 20 to 10 years or decreased the tax liability of pass-through corporations. 2 changes the benefit the super wealthy, especially the wealthy like Trump. And the conservatives on the supreme court who consistently rule in favor of corporations and against workers.

You speak of "the left" as if it is one of the Egyptian plagues. It's no better or worse than "the right." Given the performances of elected republicans in Congress and the Senate during two impeachments and the January 6 insurrection, definitely better.

Putin's "fairly strong currency" is an illusion, Russia's GDP is going under with 16% inflation, a drop in real wages, and a 50% decrease in oil and gas exports last month. If that is economic success, I'd like to know what failure looks like.

45's various lies and obfuscations will not hold water in court.

 

He is now claiming (mendaciously) that "I declassified this stuff before I left office".

 

It is not that simple. There is a protocol that must be followed. If his declassification was approved, the documents are then re-stamped as "DECLASSIFIED" with a date and a note as to the paperwork that lead to the declassification, signed by the White House counsel at the time of declassification. There is neither any mention of any of the documents taken from MaL as having this DECLASSIFICATION stamp, nor is there any document anywhere stating that 45 declassified anything. If he tries to say "I did it, but didn't tell anyone", that will not hold water in court. He lacks that authority. Thus, if there is even a single document still marked TS or TS/SCI, that is proof 45 violated the law. Open and shut. It's a felony with a 5 year prison sentence. 45 himself signed the Bill that made it a felony.

 

The second key point is that material classified RD (Restricted Data) comes under the AEA and not even a sitting POTUS, much less one savagely beaten and removed from office 18 months ago, has the authority to declassify RD. The mere existence of those outside of a guarded and authorized environment constitutes another felony.

 

A third point is that any aide who knowingly assisted in removing classified material faces the same felony charge as 45. I suspect the DoJ could go after people who might have helped, perhaps offering a plea deal to come clean. None of those guys wants to do 5 years in Leavenworth.

There's no evidence of anything "nuclear" in the search/seizure warrant and the nuclear story was created by WAPO immediately after the Garland statement. There is zero input about nuke docs from FBI or from AG Garland.
