Stargeezr
The pictures are a great addition top your articles Rooster. The Mountain B fire, should be a wake up call to the RTP to check all the other bars, and close down the illegal ones permanently. I hope that Thailand continues to modernize and eventually get people to follow the seat belt laws, and use child seat for their young ones. Seeing multiple people on motorbikes with no helmets for most or all, is still a big concern, and same with people in backs of pickups. I doubt that Thailand will change very much in the next 10 to 20 years though. Cheers.
Popular Post The Hammer2021
The idea that people who can't stand Nate are envious is not only wrong but indicates very poor judgement and a tone deaf tin ear. Labelling detractors of the slimy 'My Mate Nate' as envious is as embarrassing as it is innacurate. It's also a bit depressing - My pal Al says give your readers more respect.

It is most definitely about Thailand, comparing Thailand now with the UK of the 50's and 60's. How the UK changed poor safety habits of the type that currently exist in Thailand using TV public service adverts (PSA's). We rarely see such PSA's in the UK because the message got through. In fact the last round of PSA's was to instruct us to imprison ourselves and keep away from friends because of COVID. You can't compare UK with Thai society. Happy Sunday I'm glad it's not your intention to offend. Just be careful when posting that that is not the impression that might be felt by another person. Everybody should reflect on their lives, young or old. I am someone who looks forward enormously, it's inevitable with children aged 6 and 9. But 40% of my readers are people aged over 50 and referring to matters from the last century to inform this one is not only popular with my readers but shows how we might learn from the past. At 61 it is absurd - from my perspective - to think that I can be termed "old". I recently became the oldest winner of a Scrabble tournament in Thailand's illustrious history in this game. Next week I will be competing in this highly cerebral and competitive game in the national championships against mostly Thai young people a third my age. They will give me enormous respect especially as I will be one of the favorites. I consider myself at the top of my game both mentally and physically. I am more physically fit than I was in my twenties - daily swimming and badminton, and weight lower than when I was in my thirties - and I am looking forward - luck willing - to many more years of good health. If anything I am more concerned about mental well-being - a subject I am hoping to explore in a subsequent column than anything else. It is important for me to address these issues in an ongoing capacity to keep a lid on negativity and depression both for myself and family members. Of course marijuana impacts brain activity. In 43 years usage I am well aware of its effects. Funnily enough I am using it far less since legalization - far less in recent years. For many its effects enhance life and mental activity especially creativeness. I have used it for many things and realize its potential as well as possible downsides. I have not had Covid at all and have emerged from the pandemic unscathed though I am determined to help my children and my family move on from what was a life changing event. Their future is my #1 priority. I completely agree with you that freedom of speech is essential and as a hopefully serious journalist and columnist who is determined to promote ASEAN NOW (and Thailand) here and through the translation work that I do, I fully expect to be criticized and questioned about what I write, especially when giving opinions. I shall leave it up to others about how they perceive remarks made about me but reserve the right to defend myself if I feel things have crossed a line into personal matters. As a moderator for a couple of months now I have banned no one though I have hidden some posts and asked other moderators for their opinion. I respect the moderators on this site and indeed was once (deservedly) banned myself - another story for another day. Finally this column is in its 330th edition this week with only a few weeks missed this year after bereavements and some personal issues. I am very proud of it as I am for most - certainly not all! - of the things I have done in Thailand. Thanks for reading and have a good Sunday, too. I have just finished helping my kids with their English homework, and they are getting ready for a trip and picnic in the park. They're so excited to be spending the day with dad. Bless! I'd love to stay home and watch Brentford beat Man Utd again in the highlights (I was up to 3 am luxuriating in that). Everything today is geared up to culminate in the Spurs match at Stamford Bridge at 10.30 pm. My kids have been promised great gifts if Spurs win a trophy this season. Yes, I'm always looking forward to what might, just might, happen. Rooster

FACT Just your own limited experience confirming your own views but I drove recently to Ayudhya and the Thais all put on their seat belts for the long journey. Perhaps the Thais you know are ignorant of the usefulness of seatbelts- Perhaps you failed to support them or encourage them to use their seat belts. I hate wearing seat belts and often need reminding. Back in the UK there is more Peer group pressure about seatbelts but it's relatively recently that backseat belt use became common. (Thailand News?) Or is it just the fact that you're now in the age to look back (only)? There is no doubt about the urgent necessity of safety here. It's common sense that Thailand can't fulfill even the basics. But why then this old irrelevant UK stuff? Could it be that you got too much ganja since it's easy to get? Or is it about long Covid?
