Crime Taiwanese Tourist Left Bloodied After Attack by Homeless Man in Pattaya
Picture courtesy of Daily News. A Taiwanese tourist has been left slightly injured after being struck in the face without provocation by a homeless man wielding a wooden stick in South Pattaya. The attack has reignited calls for urgent action to tackle homelessness and improve public safety in the resort city. The assault occurred at 22:35 on 21 April, outside a restaurant on South Patttaya Road. According to Ms. A the victim’s companion, 41-year-old Mr. J had been sitting outside the restaurant, which also houses rental room, waiting for a food delivery while scrolling through his mobile phone. Without warning, a man believed to be homeless approached Mr. J carrying a stick and struck him forcefully on the side of the head, near the ear. The attacker then walked away calmly, as if nothing had happened. Mr. J, bleeding and in shock, immediately contacted Ms. A, who took him to hospital for treatment. The incident was subsequently reported to the local police. The attacker is described as a tall, slim man, approximately 166–170 cm in height, wearing a long-sleeved black shirt and trousers, and carrying a beer bottle along with the stick used in the assault. Ms. A has offered a reward of 1,000 baht to anyone who can provide information leading to the attacker’s identification or arrest. She labelled the man as dangerous and warned the public to remain vigilant, noting that the assault occurred without any provocation. Local media reports note that this is not the first such attack in the area. Despite repeated clean-up operations, the problem of violent assaults involving homeless individuals remains unresolved. Authorities have yet to make an arrest in this latest case, and the suspect remains at large. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Daily News. -- 2025-04-22 -
