Popular Post snoop1130 Posted August 23, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 23, 2022 Fifteen labour groups and their alliances rallied today (Tuesday), at the Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, to demand wage rises and the resignation of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. The protesters intended to submit their three-point demand to Government House officials, but they were prevented from doing so by police and barricades, there to prevent protesters from getting close. Their leaders then read a prepared statement stating their three demands, which include increasing the minimum wage to 425 baht/per day across the country by October and to 492 baht/day next January, a cut in the prices of all kinds of petrol by six baht/litre and a reduction in the prices of consumer products. "Give us democracy, give us more money, and pay to subsidise everything we buy!" I feel like they can't have all of those... Well, not until tourism gets back to what it was pre-covid. 1

Depending on exactly what you consider the minimum wage to be (300-375?) that could be over a 30% increase. Any examples from anywhere else where that sort of %age increase was given? (And I know the actual cash amounts are relatively low) Diesel is already being capped and mechanism's are in place to theoretically stop some increases - take Mama Noodles as an example. And of course which taxes will be raised to counter the increase - considering how relatively few here actually pay tax............ 1
