A lot of money will be flowing in for such a story.

How to know it isn't a scam?

This was my first thought too, a bank a/c number posted on a forum and people generously donating without any due dilegence....

It has not only appeared on Thaivisa.   Did you not see the link?

A worthy cause if there ever was one.  Hope she get to follow her dreams.

  • Just donated through my Bangkok Bank App.  In recent memory I can’t think of a better cause.  No one with HIV should be harassed and it should have been kept private. Good luck to NatchaneeCha.

  • 10k. Good luck, kid. Make something of yourself and <deleted> the haters.

I just am wondering whether her being a 17 year old female has any connection with people willing to donate money to her .

Would some people also donate if it was a fat overweight  male ?

Prawit was given a load of luxury watches so yeah it's possible.

People who think that should maybe start crowdfunding for themselves and find out

Well done!   Do you know any other conjunctions?

I wonder why some people are so full of themselves that they post self-congratulatory comments detailing their contributions?

Just made a donation.

Hopefully, we can maintain the positive momentum...

All the donations came from foreigners?  I'm pretty sure that more people in Thailand read Thai Rath than Thaivisa.

Never said that, of course she'll probably receive a lot more from Thai people. I'm just positively impressed that foreigners here are being generous and kind hearted toward a stranger in need.

Because it's a positive thing to do and others might follow.

Agreed, it's refreshing to go on this forum and see such positive attitude in a thread

May I please share your indulgence for a minute or two to read about an experience regarding an HIV positive child.

Nineteen years ago, I came to my Wife's village a few months before we were married. She brought with her from Phuket a DVD player with The Terminator DVD. We set it up in her parents front room, and all the kids came to watch. I bought the usual healthy snack foods of crisps, and coke....I sat just by the door with a Chang, purely medicinal. I noticed a very small boy trying to get a look at the movie, he was about five, and covered in sores on his arms and legs. I picked him up, sat him on my knee, so he could see, and gave him some coke. Everybody looked shocked. My Wife told me later that he was an orphan who was HIV positive,  both parents were drug addicts and had died. To cut a long story short I began to pay for his medicines, and school requirements, about 2,000 a month in total. Eventually the hospital found out, and he got the medicines for free. but I continued to pay for his education and clothing etc. He is now a well built good looking young man with a great wife. He is at present helping to build our shop in the village.

When we came back to live permanently in the village several months ago, he came into the garden, walked up and gave me a big hug, something that is not often seen here. I admit I sat and cried, don't ask me why, but my Wife said he will never forget I gave him his life.

Sometimes the smallest thing can make a huge difference, and we need to put our skepticism aside and do what we feel is right.

I will therefore be donating to help this young lady, the amount is not important. I will also be checking to see if there is going to be a site where we can follow her progress, and maybe to donate a small amount each month.

Kudos  to all who have helped both now, and in the future, and let us hope that in the future the Government picks up the baton to help underprivileged and sick people more.

It definitely adds to the story.

Doctors around transport departments charge 100 baht for a fake health certificate for driving licenses. How much do they charge someone for a fake HIV diagnoses?

For me it hit me because she was born with 2 big strikes  1) Poor family 2) HIV.  Someone like her I would help in anyway i can.  Even with these  disadvantages she is trying to improve her life by getting an education.

Before I read about Magic Johnson, who was diagnosed with HIV in 1990, I thought HIV was a death sentence.  But with Anti-Virals many can live for a long time. I wish NatchaneeCha a long and happy life.  I have kept her account number and will try and send her some money from time to time in the future.

No, if you watch Thai news, you'll see videos for donations pretty much every day on many channels. It is not uncommon for donations to reach millions of baht and the receivers decide to close their bank account so that people can't send more money as they have exceeded their targets. There are still decent people on both sides it seems.

You'd be surprised to see how strong the sense of community is here since the government is usually powerless to help (or too corrupted to care).

In for 2k.

Can anyone identify what university she's headed to? Perhaps in M6 she doesn't know (until next year).

Not a scam, you will feel good from having helped a young worthy person in need. Priceless.

Scam, you will have lost a couple of big notes.

Easy decision for me, just sent my part.

He's literally just pointing out that some foreigners on this thread have been generous and he perceived that as being a good thing.

You might want to think about why that upsets you and why you need to pretend that he's saying that "all the donations came from foreigners" so that you can find a reason to attack what he is saying.

I wonder why you perceive what people have done as them being full of themselves and their posts as being self-congratulatory.  (Actually, I don't.)

I realise you are very much of the mindset "Thai good - foreigner bad", but you could give it a rest where some foreign people are doing something nice for a Thai person in need.

Even if we were to pretend that you are correct, and the users that posted saying that they donated money did so out of vanity and the desire to show off, a very deserving person has received some free money to help her change her life for the better.

I see nothing but positives all round, but you choose to look for negatives.

Its where two or more roads meet and people hang around on the corner trying to trick you out of your money.

Why else post what one's donation was?    What possible other reason could there be?   I did write "some people", not everyone.

Dear forum members,

I was the author of the translation this morning and I have just done an update on the story from Thai Rath. The sum of money raised is amazing and will make a great difference to a young girl's life.

Well done to all,

Sincerely,

Rooster
