Crime EOD Police Officer Accused of Patricide in Ratchaburi

Police in Ratchaburi are preparing to issue an arrest warrant for a police bomb disposal officer suspected of shooting and killing his 73-year-old father at their family home in Ban Pong district. Investigators believe the killing was triggered by a long-standing domestic conflict. The victim, Mr Prasan Numthuek, was found dead on the evening of 23 July at his residence in Village 14, Khung Phayom subdistrict. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and back, allegedly from a .45 calibre firearm. Two spent bullet casings and a bullet head were recovered at the scene and have been sent to the Central Forensic Science Division for examination. Shockingly, the primary suspect is believed to be the victim’s own son, Police Sub-Lieutenant Prayoon Numthuek, a serving member of Ratchaburi’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit. Following the incident, Prayoon is reported to have fled the scene on a motorcycle. He has yet to contact authorities or turn himself in. Ratchaburi Provincial Police Commander, Pol. Maj. Gen. Watcharapong Amornapitak, has assigned Deputy Commander Pol. Col. Witthiwat Srithongchoi to lead the investigation. After questioning three family members and reviewing forensic evidence, investigators are confident Prayoon was responsible for the fatal shooting. Relatives told police that tensions between father and son had escalated over time. The household had a history of frequent disputes, with police previously intervening to de-escalate domestic altercations. Officers believe the killing was a spontaneous act of rage, but emphasise that such a crime must carry full legal consequences. CCTV footage from the area and testimony from local witnesses are being gathered to support the investigation. Police confirmed that while Prayoon remains at large, the process of formally issuing an arrest warrant for the charge of murdering a parent (patricide) is underway. “We urge the suspect to surrender,” said an officer involved in the case. “If he turns himself in, he will still have a chance to face justice in accordance with the law. We do not want this situation to end in further tragedy.” The case has drawn significant public attention due to the suspect’s position within the Royal Thai Police and the shocking nature of the crime.
