Region 7 chief Pol Lt-Gen Thanayuth Wuthijarasthamrong issued an "all points bulletin" to the men under his command to smarten up their act.

 

In return he called for senior commanders to make sure their men have plenty of food and drink.

 

Thanayuth chaired a meeting of very upstanding - even though they were sitting - senior cops.

 

Every one had an identical short back and sides haircut as they used to be known.

 

Before the word skinhead became prevalent. 

 

Everyone was well dressed and at seated attention. All were masked.

 

It was clear these were fine examples of what the force should look like. 

 

Thanayuth issued an eight point plan and among the highlights were:

 

Demands that police in Region 7 help the public and speak politely while so doing.

 

Cops were told to smarten themselves up, get an appropriate haircut; station chiefs were ordered to make sure that standards were being met EACH AND EVERY DAY. 

 

In other matters the cops were told to make sure that they contacted the relevant authorities to clear roads of floodwater, reported Siam Rath.

 

Edict #1 was to provide enough rainwear to the men. 

 

Cops were also told to watch out for online crime and given thanks for their hard work from the big boss.

 

Those responsible for their welfare should make sure there is no skimping on the meals and drinks, was edict #8.

Are this the most pressing issues they're impressing on their policemen? is everything ells hunky dory that now left only the appearance of the policemen? someone got their priorities in a twist...

Another fancyful idea that will never be implemented or enforced like so many others here....these folk live in a dreamworld.

1. Ensure corrupt practices are rooted out, including conflicts of interest like owning/running bars and nightclubs.

2.Ensure calls for assistance are promptly answered, including those by telephone. 
3. Ensure investigations of crimes, including those committed by so-called important persons, are promptly and effectively carried out and arrests and prosecutions follow as appropriate.

4. Ensure safety related activities to prevent loss of life such as road safety patrols, checks of vehicles and drivers/riders, patrols of swimming places, and crime prevention including school visits and patrols are carried out.

 

Oh, and get your hair cut!

The cops I met always have a short haircut and also talk politely to me, does not change the fact I have to bribe them though.

Honestly, I think their hair cut is too short and is not really that important.

 

I would prefer Thai police not to have pot bellies like some other countries in order to work more efficiently and have better image.

I don't know why the chief is obsessed with army crew cut. A normal hair cut or slightly longer hair cut looks much more handsome.

 

They should be concerned with keeping the body fit (no pot bellies etc).

While he is at it, might I suggest he encourage them to stop working the franchise long enough to practice some actual law enforcement, and traffic safety? Or would that require the doubling of salaries, the government refuses to do, out of astonishing ignorance and indifference?

As ever the Thai obsession with food and drink. With all that eating and drinking when will they have time to do their jobs? Obviously there will be no sleeping as there won't be enough time for that too.

They are always polite to me, after I tell them I work for their boss. 

In defense of the RTP it is a big country, they are not paid well and I see plenty of examples of these guys doing a good job with what they have. Road carnage, foreingers, daily murders and shootings. Its a tough job with little thanks.

No mention of keeping fit and watching their figure then....????

Not having to pay for their own uniforms, gun, motor bike etc would be a big help knowing how low their salaries are, which IMHO is one reason why there is so much corruption in the RTP.
