I am a non-smoker.  A friend, who is a light smoker, has just been diagnosed as having a  likely stomach ulcer, and been told to quit smoking.  Are nicotine gums available in. Thailand, at pharmacies or elsewhere ? What term or brandname does one ask for ?  He is in Bangkok.  Thank you.

Hi,

As I was told earlier, the reason for stomach ulcer is not the smoking itself.

The reason is that nicotine, as a substance, relaxes sphincters in a stomach and different bacterias and other stuff appears in areas where it should not be.

I think your friend should stop consuming nicotine at all.

Nicotine also increases acid secretion in the stomach

This effect occurs however the nicotine is ingested: smoked, gum, patch etc

So substituting gum for cigarettes will not help unless the gum is just used as a briedge to getting off nicotine altogether
