That is literally the most cliched and boring comment it was possible to make.  (And it has been made by several other bores already)

Love it when the ‘wannabe lawyers’ pipe up....    I’m waiting for the good old favourite.... ‘you can’t even paint your own house as you are taking the job away from a Thai’ !!!...

  • The man is wanting to help the local community that he lives in . How is that difficult to understand ? I think you are the weird one .

No.

Most Thais at least in rural Thailand aren't bothered about it and there is nothing in it for the police, so they don't bother either. The Immigration people know but aren't interested either.

At about 23 I decided there were two things that I would never do for the rest of my life. 1) Mow grass 2) Wash a car.

How pathetically devoid of meaningful activity is your retirement when you have to mow a shabby patch of weeds on the side of the road.

How pathetically devoid of meaningful activity is your life when you feel compelled to criticise someone mowing a shabby patch of weeds on the side of the road !!!  ????????

a) He isn't a member of this community, never will be.

WRONG.....  By living in the area he is already is 'part of the community’... how he participates and lives as ‘part of the community’ is up to him....

You may feel excluded from your community, but, if so, that is more telling of your attitude than anything else.

b) When the Moo Baan organises collective work, once or twice a year, I remind my wife to give them a 500 note to contribute to the after hours drink. Which makes me a "good Farang", ultimate ambition.

So.. he could be doing it simply for better visibility / safety at the junction to his area.

And once it's been cleared....someone will see the opportunity to erect a bloody great sign. no doubt !????

Like the OP, I got praised for cutting some grass, and the Mrs says our lawn looks lovely.

I shall do it again in a few days for more praise!

Are YOU On a Promise then ??

The locals will probably show their appreciation by keying his car or throwing their rubbish bags into his garden.

Its exercise for me , 45 minutes of pushing the mower once a week .
I wouldn't have it any other way!

Why would they key his car?   Never heard of a Thai keying a car, that only happens in Bootle.

Locals where I live outside of town cut grass in many places including local keep fit park, they feed it to their cows and buffalo.

I must be missing something here.... this is just a stupidly retarded comment....

Locals keying a foreigners car because he’s cutting the grass ?

Throwing rubbish bags in a foreigners garden because he’s cutting the grass ?

... thats a portion of seriously distorted sideways thinking with a side of ‘chip on the shoulder’....  ????

There's a thread on here from a guy in a village, he used his own money to clear the village green with a JCB and put down grass, and had a children's playground built.

The first night of the new grass the locals got all their rubbish and piled it high in the middle, and used it as a tip.

He got sick and they broke up the playground. Some of the women came to visit him, not to see if he was okay, but to ask him when he's going to pay to fix the playground.

Maybe you read it, maybe you didn't. I believe it had to be deleted due to all the photo documentation and the defamation computer crime laws and it was a risk to his freedom and safety.

No... I didn’t see that thread...

But, I’d hazard a guess that it wasn’t the benevolent act which upset the locals - more to the story ?

There were lots of comments on the post, with locals wondering why no Thais had taken it upon themselves to cut the grass and keep things looking tidy.

"Why didn't another Thai do this?  All the other Thais are so lazy... ????"

Always so close.

If you want to keep up with the Jonesy go live in Jones country.

"Keeping up with the Joneses" simply means having a similar lifestyle to your neighbours when it comes to consumer goods.

Then you would have to find somebody else to pay you.

I do it for free, but it takes a long time.

Thailand requires a work permit just to volunteer.

And out of all the country bumpkins who saw him working how many would  know he needs a 'work permit' and where to report him? Nothing in it for them to justify them shopping him anyway.  Dunno
