thoengthaied Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Could anyone recommend where I could get the pressure in my eyes tested in Pattaya avoiding the expensive private hospitals? I have been attending Rutnin Eye hospital in Bangkok where the doctor has prescribed Taflotan eye drops and has been asking me to go back for follow ups at 4 monthly intervals. The pressure has certainly reduced to normality but I think that rather than a trip to Bangkok every 4 months it would be quicker and more cost effective to find somewhere in Pattaya. Regards, thoengthaied.
scubascuba3 Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Try this eye clinic on Klang meant to be good, won't be expensive Chaksuwet Optical Clinic https://maps.app.goo.gl/5UdZmyw5wXV6iuvT8 1
keithcresswell Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 I find Pattaya Optical in Klang are very good and do not pressure you into buying glasses. https://goo.gl/maps/fs7S9wi8S5FBEhAk6
1FinickyOne Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Go once every 6 or 8 months - Rutnin is one of the best in the world - your eyes are important. 1
Popular Post Doctor Tom Posted October 5, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 5, 2022 I Know you say stay clear of the private hospitals, but I have had excellent and relatively; inexpensive treatment for Wet AMD and the symptoms of pre glaucoma from the consultant at BHP. I would never compromise my sight by worrying about the cost. 4 1
natway09 Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Rutnin are now more expensive than Bangkok Hospital
Y Chang Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 I went to Pattaya International Hospital for an eye checkup earlier this year. The cost was 2990 bhat which included IOP (https://www.pattayainterhospital.com/promotion-detail.php?id=29). I think you should be able to make an appointment just for IOP. Adding doctor's fee, it may be less than 2990 bhat.
lopburi3 Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 Suspect if you have treatment for pressure there may be other issues that doctor wants to check - although probably be OK for six month rather than four. As IOP is basic check/along with eye chart/computer prior to seeing doctor at any hospital would look for a good ophthalmologist as total cost will likely be less than 2k (plus medications which you can buy elsewhere if private hospital).
Jen65 Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 I have previously used BHP for eye pressure test ( I actually require the pressure test and the field test on a regular basis due to peripheral glaucoma ) . BHP expensive and did not have the latest equipment and PIH did not have any equipment saying it was too expensive . I could not find anywhere else locally to carry out these tests reliably so tended to get these done in Europe when I visit . Last tests were done at top notch opticians in Portugal (latest equipment ) plus the tests were included in the price when I bought a new pair of prescription sunglasses for 100 euro ! Opticians are way behind here , most don't have any decent testing equipment and with some not even knowing what the tests were I referred to !! I shall check out the Chaksuwet Optical Clinic at Pattaya Klang , as that may be a useful alternative .

What many will not have is CVFT (for glaucoma check and have to refer you to major eye hospitals). As far as opticians they fit glasses only - they do not do any testing - that would be an optometrist (and this is a new field in Thailand with huge shortage). In Thailand eye checks are almost always done by doctors (ophthalmologists). 2

An optical shop will not do this. OP, I doubt you will find a place with reliable equipment to do this in Pattaya unless you want to pay for having it done at BPH (which will likely cost more than going into Bkk). you can't get just the test, have to have a consult with an opthalmologist first. I recommend you stay with Rutnin - but you can discuss with the doctor, given that your pressure has stabilized, whether testing could be 6 monthly now instead of 4 monthly 1

FWIW I travel all the way from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, just to visit the Rutnin for the same reason.
