CNN needs more than an apology to dig itself out of the grave it dug for itself in Nong Bua Lamphu

CNN should broadcast a travel review of Thailand, warning prospective visitors of all the scams & environmental pollution ????

  • When you cover a fast-breaking news story there's no time to apply for a media visa. I'm sure any non-Thailand based reported coming here to cover this story would use visa on arrival/tourist visa. No

Big deflection ongoing, focus on why a violent moody drug addict ex policeman still had a gun

  • well, cnn certainly is trash but i find this story ridiculously hypocritical. 1. cnn is not responsible for securing the crime sceen. Unless they snuck in somehow it is not on them but on whoever allo

CNN’s reporting team entered the crime scene in Nong Bua Lamphu,

...after asking some health service officers for permission, which was given. Those officers were trying to be helpful, as Thais often do, but were acting in ignorance. As Thais often do.

As for not having the correct visa, I wonder how long that would have taken to be approved? The media does not work that way. The news was happening now, not in a month's time that the paperwork takes. Probably longer, as it takes a month for me simply to be given permission to live with my wife.

Basically, it's an example of 'bash the foreigners', when the actual ones at fault, innocently it would appear, are Thai officials.

I can't find any updates on the shootings, the officer, why it happened, and plans to prevent it in the future.

Everyone is only talking about CNN.

Sad to see everyone's priorities.

Why ?  They came from Hong Kong. Wouldn't they return there?

Already noticed and commented my error.

It seems clear that the reporters from CNN made a mistake coming into Thailand on tourists visas and then doing actual business/work. It also seems that the official who gave them permission to cross the line into the crime scene made a mistake.

Its very unfortunate what happened but its been blown out of proportion, by the Thai press, net-citizens!

I think they would have entered Visa Exempt with Australian PPs.

"Thai immigration withdraw tourist visas of two CNN reporters"

They entered with tourist visas as per the OP

American broadcasting giant – Cable News Network (CNN), went well beyond it call of duty and willingly entered the crime scene where toddlers were massacred just days ago.

CNN is an apology... nuff said.

Interesting twist in the case.

They are cleared for entering the premises but fined for working on tourist visas

Guess they should be en route to US already.

Tourist visa should have triggered questions from the beginning. So unprofessional.

They weren't from the USA.

Climbing over the fence = "Your free to go in?"  Really?  ????

Read the article PLEASE!

Wonder if CNN will now run negative articles about Thailand. All false of course.

Plus any news that happens in Thailand is much more likely to be kept in Thailand.  News is only for those with valid work permits. Won't really be news after the process of getting work permits.

They entered with the permission of the local authorities (Education Ministry officials). When they came to leave the gate had been sealed by the Police so they climbed a very low fence.

Their appears to have been a dispute between brown uniforms (police) and khaki uniforms ( civil service) over who controlled access.

Their actions have been seized upon as a heaven sent opportunity to create a deflection, to avoid answering awkward questions about why the ex policeman was still armed, and why it took so long for the police to react - apparently the police station is nearby.

Seems the thai news agencies are crying.  Having to blur out faces, knifes, guns, cigarettes and beer bottles must get old . Not being able to report the factual news without censorship.  The only thing they have are many photos of pointing.
