Just curious whats the typical airport departure procedures flying out internationally?

I noticed some people said you have to go through immigrations, so what is the process doing so?

Do you go to departures > check in > immigration > security > boarding? Just wondering where along the lines the immigration check would be and do you get stamped out or is there no stamp when leaving if you don't overstay?

So after you pass security, (X-ray), you can still go back to checkin/departures if you need to before immigration? If you go through immigration can you still go back to check in/departures?

ok thanks a lot

so say your flight gets cancelled, you have to book a few days later, you would have to deal with it in the area past security and wouldn't be able to go back to stay in Thailand until your next flight? you'd have to stay in the airport?

No, if your flight got cancelled, they wouldn't let you check -in and you wouldn't be able to go through security or immigration and you would still be land side

Hey are you sure security checks are after immigration and not before?

I noticed someone said security is before immigration in this thread and an online video showed the same

I seem to recall that there were three different security checks .

If security checks were before immigration, you could go through security and then go and pick up something illegal and then go through immigration

If your flight gets cancelled after you've checked in and gone through immigration, then the airline will likely step in and either try to put you on an alternate flight or put you up somewhere until they can do so.  This happened to me back in the 1980s and I was put in a hotel overnight near Don Mueang Airport. I think THAI kept my passport until boarding the next day as I had already gone through immigration. Not sure if this is still the procedure today.

There IS a process whereby you can be effectively “readmitted” back into the Kingdom IF (as your example is) your flight is delayed and there is no other option to get you of Thailand out the same day or within a reasonable time period while you remain airside.

It does require the airlines assistance and coordination with airport immigration (and customs) - but it can be done.  It is quite rare, but i know it’s been done.

Another example i can recall, is someone who - while at the gate - became too ill/sick to the point that they’re not eligible or safe to board/fly.  Like the above, the medical center/doctors will coordinate with airport immigration (and customs BTW) to get your exit stamp cancelled and get you readmitted until you can fly again… again.. very rare, but it happens.

Went today can confirm, check in > security > immigration > boarding gate

was a breeze no issues was through it all in less than 30 minutes

I guess no one is travelling, airport was fairly empty.

And if I just changed my mind and don't want to go whatever reason - can I get back if I have re-entry permit?

No, a re-entry permit is for a return visit from another county unless ‘special circumstances’ dictate.

IF you are air-side & the flight is cancelled, the airline arrange a new flight & if there is a long wait they liaise with immigration to permit whatever arrangements need to be made such as re-entry to get out up in a hotel etc

This happened to me a few years ago.

Next available flight the following day.

We were escorted through immigration, many were bussed to a hotel. I went home.  Baggage remained ‘checked in’ & could not be collected.

Security checks are before Immigration.

Once you go through Security, there is no way to pick up anything before hitting Immigration, it is just a hallway and an escalator.
