After a period of higher infections the acquired immunity begins to cause the infection rate to plummet. After a period of low infections the acquired immunity weakens and the infection rate begins to rise. The specific nature of COVID (highly communicable and relatively short lived immunity) will create cycles with a large variance between peaks and valleys. -

Okay, thanks. Well, it's a varied picture, isn't it? In the case of cars, if a Chinese car manufacturer wants to export their EV vehciles into the US, they would do so by using their US incoporated dealers in America. It would then be these dealers, as the initial purchasers and importers who pay the tariffs. To the extent they are subsidiaries of the Chinese manufacturers, indeed the Chinese company would be paying the tariff. Though you can argue they may pass it on, history shows instead the Chinese have lowered the price, and tariffs have had little effect. With other consumer goods it's different of course, when Walmart imports Chinese consumer good that are subject to tariffs of course Walmart will pay the tariff and pass the cost on, that's true. However, Biden of course kept Trump's tariffs, so both Biden and Trump thought these were sound policies. Why? Because they do bring in great revenue into state coffers, and they do make products unattractive the government does not want to be attractive, and they do penalise manufacturers the government does not like. Even if the Chinese lower prices to keep their cars competitive, this hurts them. What do experts think? But I can see the logic, if you're a nationalist and protectionist, then it makes sense. Both Biden and Trump thought so. And so does Harris. -

You beat me to it. Anyway, any device that has a battery and downloads updates from the internet is vulnerable. It's going to be a huge problem for security services. I imagine Hamas will find an alternative shortly, as every country's boffins will be working overtime to find a solution. This was a one time event and it was used too soon IMO. Imagine if israel had done that at the same time as invading Lebanon- it would have been a rout. -
