THE Public Prosecutor Tuesday (Oct. 25) filed a lawsuit against Parliament President and incumbent Speaker of House of Representatives Mr. Chuan Leekpai on a charge of defaming former prime minister Thaksin Shinawater on Oct. 28, 2012 just three days before the statute of limitations was to expire,  TV Channel 7 said Wednesday.

Speaking on Monday, the minister reaffirmed his party’s opposition to the government’s marijuana bill. The deputy prime minister said the liberal availability of cannabis was not in the national interest and that this was the main concern of the Democrat Party and its parliamentary members.

24-year-old man loses his leg in car crash in Chonburi, poor street lighting blamed

Chonburi — A 24-year-old man crashed his motorbike into a pickup truck and lost his leg. The pickup truck driver blamed poor street lighting as the cause of the accident.

Thai provinces told to submit list of suspected drug dealers and known addicts to Interior Ministry

All provincial administrations have been ordered to submit a list of suspected drug dealers and addicts in their respective provinces to the Ministry of Interior by the end of this month. The information will be added to its main database, for use in developing effective measures to deal with all aspects of the drug problem.

Flood victims face higher costs for repairs due to rising construction material prices

Thailand’s home owners will have to pay an average of 100,000 baht to repair each house damaged by flooding this year, compared with 70,000-80,000 baht last year, due to increases in the prices of construction materials, according to Worawut Kanjanakul, president of the Home Builder Association.

Thai banks to consult AMLO about postponing requirement for IDs for CDM deposits

The Thai Bankers Association (TBA) is set to hold talks with the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), seeking the postponement of the enforcement of a new rule, which will require everyone depositing cash via cash deposit machines (CDMs) to identify themselves, by using a credit or debit card plus their PIN number.

Jakkaphong aka Anne Completely Takes over Miss Universe

BANGKOK, Oct 27 (TNA) – Jakkaphong “Anne” Jakrajutatip, chief executive officer of JKN Global Group Public Company Limited, said her company reached an agreement to take over the business of Miss Universe Organization (MUO) from Endeavor Group Holdings, Inc which held a 100% stake in IMG Worldwide, LLC that had all Miss Universe copyrights.

Experts to visit Thailand to advise on management of Kaeng Krachan forest

Representatives of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) are due to be in Thailand in November, to offer advice to and to consult with Thai officials on the management of the Kaeng Krachan forest, after it was designated a world natural heritage site by UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee during its 44th session in China’s Fuzhou City in July last year.
