Daily News Thai Caption: Miracle escape

Thai media Daily News said it was a miracle that a Phetchaburi man survived after a collision in his car with an express train at a crossing.

Looking at the wreckage of 30 year old Patchara Arunphoonsap's Honda City it was easy to see why.

Patchara had just minor injuries and some chest pains and was taken to hospital after the collision at the Tha Hin cossing in Tha Rap sub-district during last night.

A representative of the state railways said that the driver said he had a microsleep and went into the barrier and the oncoming train.

There was damage to both the train's front and side.

It was the Bangkok to Kantang express #167.

He said it was very lucky for the motorist to survive and lucky for the train too in that it was not derailed and was able to continue its journey south.

Maybe this experience will set him on the right track.

Well, if you are going to nod off, why not do it approaching a level crossing when a train is coming!

Must have been a cat in his former life?

Surprised he got away with minor injuries.  The car looks totally destroyed.
I’m seeing the common “causes” for motor vehicle accidents in LOS  are:  Brake Failure, Wet Roads, Microsleep. I wouldn’t think it’s just plain unsafe driving.

Not that surprising when you consider the speed of 'express' trains here

Those drivers are not trained enough and some of them are “micro” sleepers, to boot. There is a point to be made here and good reasons to rail against them.

Darn.  His license plate is obliterated.  At least we have the train number for the upcoming draw.

I've seen this extreme form of trainspotting here once before ????

Darwin was right. Some of us are better equipped than others, to survive in this life. This fool should be dead. He simply outwitted  the grim reaper this time.

I have been driving at times when I have been very tired. What does one do? Turn up the music, or stop for some coffee, or best yet, stop and take a nap. Do something. Do not ever, ever drive into a train. It is not recommended on any level.

I bet he had a shock when he woke up.

I wonder what amulet he was wearing that saved him? The price will skyrocket! ????
