Crime Vape Raid in Bangkok: Stockpile Worth 3 Million Baht Seized, Chinese Financier Arrested
Picture courtesy of Daily News. The Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) officers have raided an illegal e-cigarette storage site in central Bangkok, seizing over 7,000 items with an estimated value of 3 million baht. The operation has led to the arrest of a Chinese financier suspected of masterminding the illicit distribution network. Pol Col Tasanapoom Jaruprach, Commander of the ECD, along with Pol Col Naruephon Karuna, Pol Lt Col Wanphet Chanyarom, and Pol Capt Patipan Pensuk, led the crackdown on a property in Nong Bon subdistrict, Prawet district. Acting on intelligence, the officers found thousands of e-cigarette devices reportedly destined for sale to retail outlets, many targeting minors and youths. During the raid, police apprehended 29-year-old Chayut, who had leased the property. Chayut denied any involvement in the illegal trade, claiming he had merely acted as a broker for a Chinese national who rented the premises for 35,000 baht per month. He stated that the foreign financier used him to manage leases and conduct business dealings. Authorities have charged Chayut with “concealing, distributing, transporting, purchasing or accepting goods known to have entered the Kingdom without proper customs clearance.” He and the confiscated goods have been handed over to investigators at Subdivision 2 of the ECD. Police say the case is ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend the Chinese financier believed to be behind the operation. Adapted by Asean Now from Daily News 2025-07-25 -

Report Retirement Lottery: A Fresh Approach to Savings in Thailand
The winnings would be a small portion of a very large pool of money, just like any lottery. The difference is that instead of the profits going into someone else's pocket, they would go into an investment scheme that would hopefully grow over the years. Aside from corruption, my concern would be that the fund be too conservatively invested and the value of pay outs being destroyed by inflation.
