500 immigration police and 50 tourist cops got their orders from Pol Gen Roy Inkhapharot who was officiating.

The moves are part of operations ordered by RTP chief Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat ahead of the APEC summit that runs in the Thai capital from November 14th to 19th.

It's just so laughable, most arrests made are drug users or sellers, they have zero interests with APEC, likely don't even know it is happening. Then overstaying people. I mean get real here, if anyone wanted to do something it is most likely a sober legit Thai or a foreigner flying in for this specifically thus having a valid visa.

If they are actually so concerned, they are foolish, they would need this level of mobilized every day, as everyone does dislike politics. Anyway, its likely just a request from the security detail of visiting parties to fill up with as many guard looking bodies.

They also do that with people like lady gaga or beyonce when visting mexico, there will be 1000 agents in the stadium, but the real bodyguards are just 2-6 people.

To add to my rant: they said they will take action on the heavily over-crowded prisons where 80% of the convicted are drug users or small time drug sellers, with often double the amount of maximum in 1 cell.

X months later in the news: they arrested 40,000 drug users and 20,000 other small-time sellers or gun keepers. The conspiracy? They just released a similar amount of prisoners under a pardon, remember...

Under Thai law drug offences need to be brought to court within 48 hours after arrest, how are they gonna tell us, in a country where not using computer systems at all properly, they do the paperwork of 40-60K people, who are real new arrests? Judges work 24/7?

Man, the amount of <deleted> that comes from politics or in the news nowadays is just insane. Might as wel ignore it entirely except for the financial markets.

Get it str8: foreigners who unfortunately have to overstay (???) their permitted time in this country are NOT criminals. I've been here since Pulp Fiction and what I didn't witness was/is any criminal activity at all! Some had a bad time with money, some got problems with their passports, some were plain vanilla farang ding-dong detached from reality, drinking beer/moonshine with locals and watching time passes by.

Young woman was departed and black-listed for 1 year. She is married to thai entertainer at Phuket, mother of 3 thai kids. She was charged 20K for overstaying her annual marriage visa (because she had to wait for new passport) and (yep) didn't do paper works at the right time. She was lucky that she found money to skip IDC, pay that 20K and one way ticket back home. She didn't hide, she went to Immigration office herself to settle fines and was arrested on a spot.
What was her crime?

It used to be 100THB/day, than 200, now it is 500 THB & black list threat.

People rot at IDC, there're many "funny" diseases like TB. If foreigners are being treated like criminals for overstaying and "working" maybe some countries should apply counter-measures to thais "working" w/o any documents there?

On the second thought - that won't help and change anything: these Draconian rules are not written but sane thais, but by bureaucrats, who probably went to study abroad and got overwhelming inferiority complex toward foreigners.

Just feel sorry and angry.

"500 immigration police and 50 tourist cops got their orders..." Okay,..... please tell me what those police do with their time usually when "at work". Are their orders strange? "Arrest overstayers"... oh we never thought of that!
