One BILLION baht in assets seized as Thai police go after online casino mafia

Crime Suppression Division police announced the arrest of 15 suspects and the seizure of assets worth a billion baht after countrywide raids yesterday.

 

The raids - called "Hanuman Action Against Online Casino Mafia" - were conducted in 63 locations in 14 provinces. 

 

Pol Maj-Gen Montree Thesakhan said that action was taken against the Fat Fast online gambling group's financial backers and franchisees. 

 

A total of 32 tracts of land bought to launder gambling money were seized.

Thirty cars - ten of them luxury vehicles - were seized as well as "big bikes", amulets and Bear Brick dolls.

 

Along with other items it all came to a billion baht in value. 

 

Further investigations by the CSD are expected to be completed before the end of the year, reported Thai Rath.

Yup, especially when compared to Thailand the police in my home country is absolutely impressively squeaky clean. Corruption is basically non-existent there, as in literally all Middle and Northern European Countries.

 

And yes, exactly because I know the comparison to non-corrupt police forces from other countries, exactly because of that I made this comment.

The Thai Police is, like in basically any 3rd world or developing country, notoriously corrupt. Denying that is like the worst cognitive dissonance that I saw since the people who got 6 shots and still claiming it would be a good thing.

Do not get me wrong, I do not totally condemn the corruption of the RTP. I actually like it, it is convenient and gives me more freedom compared to my home country.

But a fact is a fact.

Here is some misunderstanding about "online casino mafia". dig it:

The online casino (as software) runs on the servers somewhere far-far-away from LOS or perhaps to make it fancy - in the "cloud". That installation belongs to Mr.X

There is something called "affiliate program" - any Andy or Sombun or even teecha Steev can register (free) and lure suckers / drive Internet traffic to the [mothership] main site that runs and belongs to Mr.X

Although, affiliates generally spam social networks like LINE, there are more advanced kids with many websites and tools to bring their websites to the top of [say] Google search, money to buy ads and other SEO tricks. Latter are rather computer geeks and also do not qualify as mafia.

Also there're operators who register bank accounts to receive and send payment, but those are really working for peanuts.

So who did RTP arrest?

Living in Thailand since a few years and having experienced more police corruption in just one of any of these years than my other 25 years of my life in Germany.

 

Corruption in the RTP is not an exception but the rule. Heck, these "extra payments" are the main reason for many young Thai boys to be a policeman ????

You can't imagine how very correct you are! I've seen school fair with hand-made cards "When I grow up I hope to become ...." from secondary school say 15+ y.o. Noone wants to become an astronaut or science guy. Police officer, military officer, doctor of medicine and an actress. One girl wanted to become a prosecutor like her mother.

can be that they arrest some gang for human smuggling and some other nasty sh*t, but after a certain adjustment their crimes were changed into almost innocent online casino biz which almost everyone in LOS are using from time to time?
here was a guy at Samui lucky enough to switch his crime from that white stuff from poppies into simple possession of weed.

Corruption is endemic in Thailand. None more so than the RTP, but it goes all the way up to the very top. Now its not just Thailand, most SEAsian countries are similar, probably except Singapore?

The post was about Thailand ,not the USA and Australia, but as you mentioned it? Yes there is corruption in the countries you mention and many more, i would suspect, but its not endemic?

Speaking of extra payments wouldn't it be interesting to see how many police officers in non-corrupt countries make it on sunshine lists compared to here ????
