Hopefully, next will be the ones that use agents to bypass immigration requirements.

The ones that support the lifestyle of IO's all across the country? They're actually the ones following the rules, albeit the non official ones.

Not a chance in hell mate. Using agents is encouraged and the safest way to stay out of trouble in Thailand. You must be new here.

Did something change in the "overstay" rules?
Usually they gave you a fine once you were leaving the country...

Correct if you go to the airport and have a boarding pass to somewhere out of Thailand, the 19 days overstay would not be a problem, just a fine?

There has to be a back story to this. Either tip-off by suspicious neighbours, or she was encroaching on someone's business, or she had stolen a Thai lady's boyfriend/husband. No way was this "smart-car" the reason for her being detected. Sure the car has a data terminal with internet connection to check the database but that's all.

Internet?  I never heard of this....

Quite so the OP is trying to make out that the 'internet' and 'facial recognition' technology are the latest thing in fighting crime. Both have been out for a very long time, its just that Thailand didn't catch up until recently?????

moots the need for another 250 of these cars, at 3 per province & few envelopes for the procurement orders

Australian police use cars fitted with 360 degree scanners that check the cars number plate against a data base, they just cruise bye. Make sure you have a license, paid all your fines, registration fees, no outstanding warrants. Big brother really is watching.

Actually they have apps on their smartphones to even check for that nowadays, so the car is not needed. That's how they often check during nightclub raids too, never seen BMW.

Not disagreeing with you, but if they have apps on their smartphones, which would make sense, why are they asking for peoples passports?

Right. Even a motorbike or a bicycle can do this. If the IM-Officer has the permit to enter the IM-Database with his smartphone , this would be enough.

Are you suggesting that illegal immigrants are not serious?

That's never gonna happen. Too many high ranking IOs getting very rich from it and quite a few lower ones, along with of course the agents. And good luck to them the whole country is rotten with corruption

Here is the inside of one! UHF and VHF radios for tracking and communication, instant number plate recognition, and license status, on board speed cameras front and rear, direct access to immigration data base. Plus a whole heap of other goodies. That's what you call a proper smart car!!

They used to park one of the BMWs in the courtyard of Jomtien immigration office.

"Smart Car" is back.

What's so smart about that .in Western countries the cops have been using this So called New Technology for more then 20 Yrs.

Is it because they are Baby BMW or they just want to show off or  because it's New to Thailand.

'but the agents do not do anything illegal, they are merely middlemen/women,'

Ha ha. I know 4 guys who do not have the funds to legally get an extension. They all use an agent with 'contacts' at the IB, middlemen alright, channeling money to the right people

The cops could also access that database on their phones. These BMW smart cars are obviously another way to waste taxpayers' money with kickbacks to suppliers of unnecessary, overpriced eqipment.

This infers that an "internet connection'' is somehow the latest technology? Its been out over 35 years?

Well just my 2 cents, where I live every police, car has computers as soon you go past them, they know if you are not licenced or where you live and so on so what is a smart car?
