Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said today (Friday) that he has never been involved in corruption throughout his career in government service and he does not tolerate corruption in the government’s bureaucracy.

In his address to mark International Anti-Corruption Day today, he said that corruption in the bureaucracy mainlyrelates to procurement projects, the selling of positions to the highest bidders, bribery and exploitation of legal loopholes.

As Thailand is a member of the United Nations, he said that his government has always attached importance to eliminating corruption in all its forms.

Despite these efforts, corruption remains a pervasive problem in Thailand, particularly in the bureaucracy. The World Bank's 2020 Control of Corruption Index ranks Thailand 95th out of 190 countries, indicating a moderate level of corruption. The 2019 Corruption Perceptions Index by Transparency International also ranked Thailand as the 101st least corrupt country out of 180 countries.

One of the main causes of corruption in the bureaucracy is the lack of accountability and transparency in the procurement process. Public officials often award contracts to companies without competitive bidding, leading to inflated prices and the siphoning of funds to the officials' personal accounts. In addition, the sale of positions to the highest bidders also contributes to corruption in the bureaucracy, as public officials are more interested in enriching themselves than serving the public.

Another factor that contributes to corruption in the bureaucracy is the lack of enforcement and punishment for corrupt officials. Despite the efforts of the NACC, many corruption cases go unpunished, as the legal system is often slow and inefficient. This lack of consequences for corrupt behavior only encourages public officials to continue engaging in corrupt practices.

In conclusion, corruption in the bureaucracy is a pervasive problem in Thailand, and it primarily relates to procurement projects, the selling of positions to the highest bidders, and bribery and exploitation of legal loopholes. To address this problem, the government must focus on increasing accountability and transparency in the procurement process, strengthening the enforcement of anti-corruption laws, and implementing effective measures to punish corrupt officials.

He said when first taking the PM chair he would elinmnate corruption.

"In his address to mark International Anti-Corruption Day today, he said that corruption in the bureaucracy mainlyrelates to procurement projects, the selling of positions to the highest bidders, bribery and exploitation of legal loopholes."

So why have these areas of corruption not been mentioned re specific actions to stop the corruption?

Yawn.

NONTHABURI, (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha vowed to seriously prevent policy-related corruption on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day on Dec 9.

Gen Prayut made the promise while presiding over an event to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day on Dec 9 at the headquarters of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC).

He said that the United Nations designated Dec 9 as the International Anti-Corruption Day and Thailand, as a UN member, always prioritized corruption suppression.

The guy is unbelievable and really not worth commenting on. Yuck!

Lmfao. Another photocall leading to absolutely nothing.

If he was serious he would need to establish a clean police force specially trained to hunt these criminals and then back them up with a special protection force to keep the police alive! Then he would need a whole special court of untainted staff with their own protection service. and finally he would need 20 years of non stop work to catch the existing criminals let alone the new ones who move in to fill the voids left by those arrested.

Ain't gonna happen!

"The World Bank's 2020 Control of Corruption Index ranks Thailand 95th out of 190 countries, indicating a moderate level of corruption."..... I guess if 99 out of 100 people are corrupt it is considered a "moderate" level of corruption. It isn't considered a high level of corruption until it hits 100 out of 100.

Amazing Thailand lmao TIT

The PM is the head of the government as the Executive Branch. So the failure to prevent, detect and punidh corruption in government is entirely his.

Furthermore, is it not the highest form of political corruption to have been royally endorsed as PM from 2014-2018 representing the Head of State to deny now after the fact that he wasn't PM?

The problem is that the "buck stops here" for being responsible to stop corruption in government doesn't exist.

The guy is in total denial and must be in another universe because it's rife in every single corner of the bloated bureaucracy here.

Just more hot air from the Czar of hot air.

I'd rate leading a junta to overthrow the government as pretty high on the corruption scale

But, we all know standing there and telling bare faced lies, he has no issue with, so not really much meat in his comments.

And not a Thai protester for hundreds of miles.....they just sit back and take it!

So every December 9th Thailand has a crackdown on corruption?

Proof again of another ridiculous UN resolution, giving the geeks in New York yet another reason for a champagne reception; well attended by our African, Asian and Latino friends.

Another proof that Prayuth still does not speak/read English, otherwise he would not make a fool out of himself.
