Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital Ward Experiences?

Recommended Posts

Has anybody reading this ever been a patient in a Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital ward rather than a private or semi-private room? Would you share your experience? Positives? Negatives?

A friend was hit by a car in Pattaya and is currently in BPH ICU.  I am helping his family gather information to aid in decision making down the long road ahead of him.

Insurance resources are limited and lowering the cost of long term care will become an issue at some point.  It may happen that at some point, a private or semi private room may be too expensive for long term care.

(Please stay on topic.  I've heard way too many rants about Thai drivers: the driver who ran the red light at the pedestrian crossing was not Thai, BTW.  He was British)

Wife spent a couple nights in a private hospital (Vibharam) nea Huamak station for thyroid surgery last month.

Room rates:  VIP 3850, single 3150, double 2550, 8-bed 550.

Thai social insurance pays 550/night for room.

We requested a single, but don't know availability until day of surgery.  All rooms were booked, so wife was placed in the 8-bed ward.  It was fine.  Clean, quiet, good nursing staff.  Curtain dividers, no TV's, limited visiting hours.  We had no complaints.

Single rooms have a sofa for relatives to sleep overnight.  I wound up staying at a new hotel 5-minute walk from the hospital.  (P.Park Residence at 650/night)

I thought BPH has only private (maybe semi- private) rooms?

Certainly correct (private only) for the Pattaya one.

In fact I was told by the broker I use that all the main Pattaya and close environs private hospitals only have private rooms which is an issue with quite a few insurance companies basic cover.
