Chalong – A yacht reportedly disappeared from a docking area in the sea in Chalong.

The Thai Maritime Enforcement Center Phuket told the Phuket Express that they were notified that a yacht named ‘Marco Polo’ had disappeared from the docking area in Nai Harn.

The German owner, Mr. Marco Ceferin, notified law enforcement that the yacht had gone missing yesterday (December 28th) when he went back to his yacht at 11:00 A.M.

Maybe he parked it somewhere else and forgot ?

I've often wondered why this doesn't happen more often.  These boats can be incredibly expensive, and yet there they sit, tied to the dock with nothing more than a rope to keep it in place.

Internationally...this is not uncommon...many yachts get stolen and many of those are never found

The Marco Polo is one of the scuba diving boats based in Phuket (and sometimes Kao Lak). A bit odd for it to just up and disappear...especially because the "boat boys" live and sleep on the boats.

I thought about that as well, but if you read the OP you'll see it's a different boat.

Don't these boats have trackers on them?

Even if they don't, something that size is not the easiest thing to hide.

If witnesses saw people boarding the boat at 8am on 28th, and the owner arrived to find it missing at 11am, it can't have gone far in three hours.

With 10 knots an hour that is a vast area to search. And by the time the search party reaches the search area more time will have lapsed, widening the area vastly again.

Just read that most likely it wasn't stolen but dragged her anchor.

it only looks big when it's near land or in a harbor, out on the ocean/open seas it's very, very, very small

desperate perhaps drunken overstayed sailor fleeing the Immi boys and the dreaded Smart car?
