A staff member at the Virginia school where a six-year-old boy allegedly shot his teacher last week had been alerted before the shooting that the child might have a weapon, an official said.

The boy's bag was searched, but no weapon was found, Richneck Elementary school superintendent George Parker told parents.

First-grade teacher Abigail Zwerner was left with serious injuries after police say the boy shot her "intentionally".

This time, a six-year-old student allegedly shot his teacher with a handgun at a Virginia elementary school, in what police described as an "intentional" shooting.

The alleged perpetrator's young age has added a gut-punch twist to an already tragic scenario. The case has forced local leaders, police, and gun violence experts to confront a horrific question: What happens when a first grader shoots someone?

Perhaps, but do bear in mind that teachers training usually involves training them how to teach, not how to be security guards. There are already a ridiculous number of services teachers are expected to perform that it is a wonder any teaching gets done at all

BTW I was a teacher, most inner city gangstas. Several times my teen age charges had guns on them. Luckily I didn't know it at the time.

What would you do if you found out a student in your class had a gun? demand it be handed over? Would if they don't? then what?

School administrators were warned 6-year-old had a gun before he allegedly shot Newport News teacher, lawyer says

Administrators at the Newport News, Virginia, elementary school where a teacher was allegedly shot by a 6-year-old earlier this month were warned the day of the shooting that the child had a gun, according to the teacher’s lawyer.

“Over the course of a few hours, three different times – three times – school administration was warned by concerned teachers and employees that the boy had a gun on him at the school and was threatening people,” Diane Toscano, an attorney for the teacher, Abby Zwerner, told reporters in a news conference Wednesday. “But the administration could not be bothered.”

School board votes to cut ties with superintendent weeks after 6-year-old allegedly shot teacher

—

A school board voted Wednesday evening to oust its superintendent, weeks after a 6-year-old allegedly shot a teacher in one of the district’s schools and on the same day that the teacher’s lawyer said school administrators were warned that the child had a gun the day of the shooting.

The Newport News Public Schools school board voted 5-1 in favor of a separation agreement and severance with Superintendent Dr. George Parker III.

The teacher’s lawyer alleged earlier Wednesday that school administrators had multiple warnings about the boy the day of the incident.
