Don’t Rush To Open A Legal Casino In Thailand: Academic

A PROMINENT academic warned that there are both pros and cons to the proposal to open a legal casino in the country but this project should not be rushed and only implemented after effective law enforcement and reforms are in place, Naewna newspaper said this evening (Jan. 15).

 

On Thursday the House of Representatives approved a full report by a special committee on setting up a casino and entertainment complex in the country by a 310 to nine vote.

 

Bangkok and the Eastern Economic Corridor were cited in the final report as suitable sites for the casino and entertainment complex but earlier Pattaya, Koh Samui and elsewhere in the provinces were also mentioned.

 

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anusorn Tamajai, director of Pridi Banomyong International College, Thammasat University, said while at least 50 billion baht a year is flowing out of the country mainly to casinos in neighbouring countries including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore with this leading to the state losing revenue, a casino within the country could turn into a haven for criminals who would use it to launder money and it could also lead to other forms of illicit businesses.

This government is so mired in greed  the casinos will eventually be allowed probably with Chinese advisors

The way a convicted drug smuggler in this  government  paved the way for the legalization of cannabis without due diligence and regulation in place  tells you a lot .

The key will be " the right sort of criminals".

 

Opening a casino will no doubt require substantial negotiations and permissions. Their will be significant " investments" required to both establish good working relationships for the negotiations meet the conditions of those negotiations and to ensure the permissions. Once the casino is established those investments will need to be regularly "reviewed".

This already exists here.  The number of illegal casinos owned by the BIB, politicians and Chinese thugs would surprise people here.  A new brown envelope factory would have to be set up to accommodate the number of bribes.

For being an academic, the person is very unaware of how things work. They do not work like that. Set up, try, and see what happens is the general model.

Why would a drug dealer legalize it, if he was under protection? 

 

Especially under the terms we se is practiced at the moment? Free flow

that will be a long wait before law enforcements and rforms are made..... Don't look further than the Civil union Bill/Gay Marriage laws, that takes already almost a decade....Alcohol laws are still not adjusted to the 21st century and driving ..... don't need to explain
