but we're talking about TAT's creative accounting system here!

Not "talking", just whinging.

It wouldn't matter what the numbers were, or if the bars were packed, or the streets gridlocked, the whingers will whinge.

I have noticed lately much less air traffic in the sky's than the last 2 weeks, so the down trend is happening.

I think you might be right, pretty sure the December figure will be confirmed at over 2 million so January might be the first month that will experience a decline since international arrivals restarted. Definately part of the reason they were so eager to start getting the Chinese back in just as the Western segment drops off after the xmas/high season rush.

LOL yes I'm a l-o-n-g time O-A expat with re-entry permit (of course), but we're talking about TAT's creative accounting system here! ????????

TAT has no input in compiling the figures, they make their forecasts but actual reporting is not their responsibility or within their control.

And the Thai huggers will still find a way to excuse the inexcusable.

And what exactly is "inexcusable" about government statistics, doesn't every country in the world have them.

But then not every country has such a large number of disgruntled expats.

Probably anyone stamped in, that could be boarder bouncers and even those in transit.

Not all entries are tourists.....People living in Thailand and coming back from their families in the neighbouring countries because of Christmas and New Year celebrations, are no tourists..Same for expats who went back for the holidays and now retgurning to Thailand  again... So what do TAT descripes as a tourist??

I suspect that anyone who "comes through the turnstiles" is a tourist!

Phiphat and his boys at the Tourism Authority Club are having yet another light moment at the crystal ball.
Border passers (Lao, Cambodian and Burmese) as well as Thai citizen do NOT complete a TM6 arrival/departure card anymore. All arrival by air, irrespective of nationality = ditto.

Any idea, where these figures come from - neither airline nor immigration can have these figures?

Are you claiming that the immigration has no record when you cross the border? They keep a number of data items for each person crossing the border, name, nationality, passport number, flight number, visa type etc.

So you are saying there will be no entrance fee if you have a re entry permit?? Aye right!

Never mentioned it, from what I've read on that separate topic the only foreigners that will be exempted are those with a work permit, I guess as they are paying local tax on earnings.

AOT tracks the number of aircraft movements, inbound and outbound, domestic and international.

Lunar New Year tourism hopes fizzle as Chinese stay home

I caught something on the news this morning as I was driving to work, they interviewed a Chinese taxi driver who stated he was very worried about the CCP economy after the covid restrictions were lifted. He said he still had a mortgage to paid and a family to take care of and hasn't bought new clothes for himself in 3 years so he will once again be wearing the same clothes for the Lunar New Year.  He mentioned that most people can't afford taxis these days and are taking public transportation or finding alternate ways to travel.

Indeed Cake many countries in the west have banned Russian aircraft from their Airspace and barred their cash cards but good old Thailand hasn't, and is happy to aid Putins war and carry on lobbing missiles into apartment blocks and hospitals. Guilt not a chance money money money.

I suspect a lot of the sanctions rumoured are not being enforced very tightly..... Russians seem to have no problem getting here, nor supporting themselves while here. Not like their currency has been restricted very much is it?

How is Thailand aiding Putin? The Russians spend, not make money here. In fact Putin should prevent them coming here if he needs more war money.

Where does the money go to when the Russians have bought their airfares to Thailand? If Thailand refused entry to Russian aircraft like Aeroflot who have begun direct flights to Phuket, or Siberian airways Putin would have less to spend on killing kids and civilians in Ukraine.
