Bad blood between Jatuporn and Thaksin wounds Pheu Thai’s election chances

Former red-shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan has shocked political observers by launching stinging criticisms of his former party Pheu Thai and its patriarch, Thaksin Shinawatra.

 

Jatuporn demanded that the core opposition party issue a public declaration that it would not form an alliance with the ruling Palang Pracharath Party after the general election later this year.

 

He also accused fugitive former premier Thaksin of repeatedly betraying the red shirts, who were his loyal supporters and helped vote his proxy Pheu Thai into power.

 

Political analysts say Jatuporn’s allegations are likely to undermine Pheu Thai’s hopes of a landslide election victory this year.

 

His unexpected attack on Pheu Thai and Thaksin has left Jatuporn under fire from critics, who accuse him of aiding embattled Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha – whether intentionally or not.

Jatuporn best days are over. His criticism will not make any difference to voters sympathetic to Thaksin. He is trying to win back support from the Red Shirts but not really gaining much grounds. His rallies were poorly attended and he made serious misjudgment inviting PAD leaders to his rallies. Most Red Shirts leaders have distance themselves from Jatuporn Red Shirts started as a protest against the military takeover of Thaksin government. They are still supportive of him now.

but he is not associated with pheu thai at all and the red shirt's UDD, which he used to lead, is not active since 2014.

He is a turncoat, cobra, traitor - non of thaksin supporters would even blink at election time. Those undecided would switch to future forward.

If he really wants to be as radical as he tries to portrait himself now, he can join protests in support of political prisoners, reform of judicial system

I read in another article that Jatuporn finally understands that Thaksin's actions are not about democracy but only about Thaksin.

Obviously it is sad that Jatuporn needed years to understand this. But at least finally he understands it. Bravo.

I never thought I would agree with Jatuporn. It seems there is still a little hope.

Jatupon's a bit slow. It's been as plain as day ever since Thaksin's landslide win back at the beginning of the millennium that he has no interest in democracy' it's not my goal', as he said.

The red shirts were simply one part of his arsenal, buying up as many MPs ( 80 MPs from NAP, if I recall right), was another. 

He once explained his political strategy to be like his phone business- dominate the market, take over rivals so opposition is weak.

Who can forget the pathetic spectacle of Jatupon, Nattawut and Viera negotiating with Abhisit about dissolving Parliament for an election but unable to reach a decision before the big boss, the man with the money, gave the go ahead.

The red shirts were always just a tool to enable Thaksin to return, the talk of democracy just a cover.

Pheua Thai would join Prawit at the drop of a hat if it meant Thaksin could come back. 

Advertised as reconciliation to move the country forward beyond the colour coded politics, the idealistic Red Shirts will turn their back on Thaksin, disgusted but the vast majority of rural red shirts won't give a flying fluck as long as the populist policies continue to flow

Everyone in the current regime is electoral poison. Nothing to be gained by linking up with (politically) dead men walking. The daughter will do just fine.

Actually, if one really wanted to explore deeper, you might find that they're all electoral/political poison.

You underestimate Thaksin’s (and Yingluck’s) popularity and the public hatred of all those responsible for the last 8 years. Should we return to coloured street mobs - Reds will outnumber Yellows 100 to 1. Those above ain’t what they used to be, the democracy monument plaque will be restored. Thaksin will do as he pleases.
