Without Chuwit this case would have been just another case of a helpless victim. To make matters worse the police even blamed the victim in the media that she was drunken and whatever. In other news it is written already that police officers admitted that they lied. What a story. For sure all the people guilty in this case will be transferred to a different post.........

Transferred, that's all.

Doesn't solve the underlying issue of police involved in extortion.

They should be sacked.

All three should step down for failing their country.

It has been long know most of the RTP are a law unto themselves.

Now publicly shamed for extortion the heads must roll, and I mean the 3-heads..

You tell 'em!

Have you considered a petition?

Some aseannow posters as well did the standard victim blaming, imagining fanciful scenarios without a wisp of evidence.

And some of them are still doing it on other similar threads to this, even though the RTP have admitted that what happened is true.

I thought the same... and transfer his money. no need to come...a video call in a court with a Judge and problem solved.

You can’t … if he gives sworn evidence the Thai government has to prosecute n the policemen will go to jail. Thai evidence law do not allow Skype or WhatsApp must be sworn testimony or testimony in Thai embassy when a case file has opened.

Still confused regarding what they are saying should have legally happened.

Should she have been arrested with a court case date set?  Would that be more problematic and costly?

Can they legally give verbal warnings and let people on their merry way?

Do vapes allow for police discretion regarding an on the spot fine, I believe after years of hustle they did that with littering and the hustle stopped and tourists paid the fine without the feeling of been hustled.

Minor misdemeanors like a vape really should not be wasting police and court time, by not allowing a quick efficient option it is these things that become a catalyst for corruption. Hopefully this will be clarified.

I don't agree with the vape law and makes sense to me that its dropped, some people may even question if the reason its illegal has corruption as a root cause, it would be interesting if this story goes down this rabbit hole to deeper root cause.

^^^ still waving a flag for corruption I see. 24 hours ago you were blaming the victim here.

You are clearly unaware of the countless studies that have documented how much corruption adds to the daily cost of doing everything. It's a vast cost to the country and to everyone living in it, not only financially but in lives lost or destroyed (the road toll for example and the pilfering from hospitals or bribes in many rural areas for healthcare).

I can't believe you actually wrote that.

No flag is being waved for corruption, then or now. What I wrote previously was that I have enough experience here to realise that dual pricing is  a feature of the landscape and that extends to police fines also. It was an observation, it was not a measure of support.

Yes, corruption is bad for the economy in many ways. But corruption here is endemic, not to a scale imagined by studies you've seen.

Chuwit should run for PM.  People will run scared and hide, Skeltons will be found in many closets......

I agree he should run for PM but unfortunately he can't as he's a convicted felon and has served prison time here in Thailand. Oh and were those Skeltons Red or did you mean skeletons. 5555

You visit an immigration office and watch as agent after agent get preferential treatment by giving out some "gifts" to the staff.  You listen to farangs talk about how for a thousand $$ or so they don't have to follow the rules to get long visas.  You get Japanese tourist being offered fast lane and a police escort to Pattaya all advertised online for a fee.  You get Mr Red Bull who kills a cop while speeding and jacked up on cocaine who for some hefty gifts is able to avoid any pretense of justice.  You get elected leaders being ousted by illegal coups with no repercussions.  As to what corruption and demands many everyday Thai businessess fork over to get permits etc who knows but it is just a cost of doing business for many.  You get Thais who become very wealthy with fancy cars and rolexs and homes all on a meager salary.

Is it any big mystery why a poorly paid cop would conclude that the entire bunch is corrupt so why should i not get in on the action.  Maybe if i am corrupt enough I can amass enough money to move to the juicer end of the trough

I am very sorry to hear this story! For myself, I have no personal experience of corruption by the RTP to my disadvantage in 20 years living in Thailand.

The RTP are our Defenders

They are our Protectors

They are our Enforcers of the Constitution

The are our Enforcers of the law

Aren't they?

A high level of disappointment from me to the RTP

Mostly sarcasm, a bit of genius; but the real truth is, "meiosis". For those new to this word, it is "understatement"

Nobody in the RTP ever loses their job when caught with their pants around their ankles, they are simply 'transferred' to an undisclosed location where they can continue their crimes uninterrupted. Life as usual in LOS.

So they just loose a few turns at the trough is what your saying....

When the Prime Minister took over, he promised to end this corruption, seeing how it’s going on still after so many years, he’s in office he should resign all the police involved they should be transferred they should be fired for the whistleblower. I hope he has a lot of bodyguards around him TIT.

What I find funny is the split.

27,000 divided by 5-7 cops, plus a big tip for taxi driver.  They temporarily messed up their lives and careers for what,  4000 baht each?  What a joke.

4,000 every few nights is great when they can keep doing it and we know they do; that's why many Cops live in big Houses and have big Cars and Bikes etc etc.   Corruption is so deeply ingrained in their psyche it is almost impossible to stop it.  Furthermore; they don't give a hoot what Prayut or anyone else thinks or says and only stop when they are caught red handed and they also know that any 'Punishment' will be trivial !

Just because the police lied doesn't mean that she didn't also!  And she did, that was what was making her accusation a bit dodgy until the RTP clarified what really happened.

Well at least you admit the police lied, that's something!????

How could I not, once the evidence was there?   I was being impartial all along, much to the annoyance of most people ranting away here!
