Just renewed my 1 year extension (retirement). Immigration dated the expiration date to 1 year from when I submitted the application and not the original expiration date which had be the same for years past. Is this a new policy?

Yes, you need to tell us which immigration office.

I recently renewed my 1-year retirement at CW (around a week ago) My visa is extended to the original expiration date.

Under that date in my passport is the date I submitted my application.

So you ought to have 2 dates stamped in your passport:

i) the actual date the visa expires as per previous years, and

ii) an earlier date (I assume) which shows the date you attended immigration for renewal.

 

You can of course show us a copy of your renewal here. If what you say is correct you will need to return to immigration to correct the issue.

I know (because it happened to me) that when you change the reason (I changed from Married -> Retirement) then the date of application is the date your extension starts.

 

I "lost" 6 days because of it, because I did not want to go on the last day to the IO (going on the last day your extension ends is IMHO not a good idea)

That was worth mentioning that you changed, but good that you now know why it happened.

That's what happens when you get older always something left out,  you forget or want to argue about. ????

In my endeavor to clarify my original question, I had discussed this with a friend who came out with married extensions are OA visas and retirement extensions are O visas or vice versa. He was quite adamant. My belief was your initial visa was either O or OA. All extensions don't change this. Anyone know the real story.

OA is a  O (other) pre approved (A) non immigrant visa based on retirement obtained from a Consulate.  Extensions would have to be for retirement.  O is (other) non immigrate visa (most often issued for marriage) and can be issued by Consulate (or in special case immigration in process of extension of stay). 

My original visa was NON-O. I have had extensions based on marriage and retirement over the past 25 years. i believe my visa is still NON-O.

Yes it is original entry visa - extensions.  Does not change unless you enter visa exempt or on a different visa.  The O can be extended for many both marriage and retirement.
