Watchdog Thailand investigate after stray dog vanishes

Daily News Thai Caption: Hunt for people eating dogs

 

Daily News reported that Bang Pu police and reps from Watchdog Thailand went to an area of factories and wasteground in Soi Rong Nam Kheng Srichai, Samut Prakan, south east of the Thai capital Bangkok.

 

It is an area where there are dozens of stray dogs. One in particular who lived at the end of the soi was called Kathi.

 

Kathi had a handicapped leg after being hit in a car accident. Animal lovers in the area took pity and often came to feed the animal.

 

Then it went missing.

Watchdog Thailand checked CCTV that showed two men with a sack.

 

Their investigations found bloodstains where Kathi slept then on a trail into an area of undergrowth they found the animal's nappy and a bloodstained cloth.

 

They believed it was hit over the head then taken away to be eaten by migrant workers from Myanmar.

 

This according to Rattiya Tiawtrakoon from Watchdog who also said they found bones and dog hair.

She said that watchdog would be putting up a sign telling people that killing dogs in Thailand is illegal.

 

A staffer at the ice factory said that strays in the area were a big problem and things had not improved greatly after spaying was done by the local authority.

 

The staffer said they had no knowledge about dogs being eaten until they saw it in the news.

 

Police are checking the CCTV to try and find the men with the sack to see how they might have been involved.

Maybe one of the dog lovers should have taken it home..

instead of leaving it to stray around a factory?

Perhaps the burning question is did they have knowledge their  slaves, err workers, were so poorly paid that they were resorting to eating strays? 

of course that is only a relevant question if you believe the burmese did it.

Dog lovers my <deleted> , feed it leftovers and hope to go to heaven for it , maybe who took the dogs is a dog lover , maybe they want to cook it  and love eating it

For a country of supposed dog lovers why are there so many diseased miserable suffering dogs everywhere? We have laws against animal abuse in the US also and I never saw these horrible sites even once.

Are they dog lovers, or are they lovers of things they think will make merit for them?

 

These are, or are from the same group, of people that participate in the capturing, imprisoning and then temporary release of various animals in and around temples.  Never mind that them paying to temporary release the animals keeps the trade going and therefore leads to more suffering than there would have been had they never involved themselves in the practice.

 

I'm not claiming that the practice of "doing good deeds" being part of Thai culture doesn't lead to some really nice things happening.  But, like "face-saving", it's good until it's not.

Oh please. They simply need start a nationwide culling program. Most soi dogs are a nuisance. Most are mangy, some are disease ridden, many are hungry, tired, and lead terrible lives of desperation. Some attack people, some terrorize neighborhoods. Many harass the domestic dogs, and cause them to bark all night long, like in my neighborhood. Nobody wants to do anything about it. Culling is the answer. If they found a budget for it, they could do it Western style. Round up the dogs, clean them up, vaccinate them, and put them up for adoption. The ones who are not adopted after 60 days are simply put down. Nothing cruel about it. Not doing something like this, is both cruel to the dogs and to the neighborhoods they infest.

 

The average dog bite cost alot money. A series of rabies shots, etc. And that is assuming someone was not hurt badly, like a small child. So, we should prioritize the health of mangy, miserable soi dogs over the well being of the human population?

After getting bitten, you must get treated at a hospital. And the cost of treatment is up to 20,000 baht for a series of rabies shots. And that assumes it was a light bite and no other injuries occurred. Many of these soi dogs are insane and true desperados.

 

The real solution is massive, nationwide culling. These are mangy creatures, leading desperate lives. Show some nerve and compassion and take them out of the misery. Clean up the streets!

 

People get so sensitive about soi dogs, yet they do not hesitate to encourage the killing of pigs, cows and other animals for their own enjoyment and consumption. Isn't there a bit of hypocrisy there? If you eat animals, you are responsible for their slaughter. At least one can make an argument that the animals they eat serve a function. That argument cannot be made about the mangy, diseased, pestilent, sad, forlorn, abandoned soi dogs. They lead lives of desperation. 

 

If you love them show some commitment and adopt a few. Otherwise, let's get rid of them.

Rabies is an epidemic here. They shut down the economy for covid. They don't shut down the highways due to traffic deaths, and they don't do anything about the soi dog tragedy and dangers.

What about that fellow that comes through the village trading plastic buckets for dogs? I think they go through Laos to Vietnam. Unless a bunch of doo gooders from Bangkok show up the Thai border people look the other way as they don't want to be stuck feeding 100 dogs.
