Pattaya Police Bust Major Ya Ba Dealer

Banglamung police arrested a ya ba (amphetamine) dealer who was previously arrested as a drug user.

On 29 June 2007, at 5:30 PM, Pol.Col. Sarayut Sagnuenphokai, Superintendent, Banglamung, Chonburi, and a team of police officers, arrested Mr. Ong-art Phiraksa or "Peed" (26), residing at 32/3, Moo 4, Khao mai gaew, Banglamung, Chonburi, who is a big ya ba distributor. He was arrested at the side of a house with no address number, near where he lives, by undercover police officers who pretended to be buying ya ba from him.

While the police were attempting to arrest him, Mr. Ong-art suddenly ran into a nearby forest, but police were able to catch and arrest him. Searching his shoulder bag, police found ya ba in a clear plastic bag, as well as some ya ba in clear straws, altogether 748 tablets. They also found forty-nine .22 caliber bullets. Police took Mr. Ong-art to investigate and tested him for drug consumption. His urine was purple, indicating that he had consumed ya ba, to which he admitted. He said that he bought the ya ba from Mr. Ake who lives in Soi Nikom Patana, Rayong Province, for one hundred fifty baht per tablet, for resale to customers at two hundred fifty baht. Most of his customers are small-time dealers. He also bought .22 caliber bullets, for one thousand baht, form Mr. Eaw, who is his close friend also living in Rayong, Nikom Patana Soi 13. He said he has not bought a gun yet.

Pol.Col. Sarayut checked Mr. Ong-art's police record and found out that he was once arrested as a ya ba user. After he came out of prison, he became a small-time ya ba distributor and eventually became a major player. Police and the drug suppression team will extend the investigation to arrest the whole gang as soon as possible.

He later confessed that he bought them from another drug distributor who lives in Rayong province, for one hundred fifty baht per tablet, for resale to customers at two hundred fifty baht. Most of his customers are small-time dealers.

This is what they consider a major dealer?

20,00 pills or more and he could be in the big leagues, but a couple of large packs is nothing. (In UK in the sixties the amphetamines were in packs the size of a coffee mug - 500 blues per pack. 48 packs in a cardboard box.)
