July 2, 200718 yr I was getting tired of seeing blatantly anti-news posts on a daily basis, so I decided to try out the ignore function of the board. I added the user's name to my ignore list, checked that it was there, and then refreshed my forum view. Why is it that I still see that user's posts? Or is it that the ignore function does not cover new posts by ignored users? TIA.
July 10, 200718 yr Author Ok, so nearly a week with nary a reply. I didn't want to use the e-mail option as stated in the pinned thread, since I wanted this to be searchable and for others to benefit from it (it is a forum, no?). Anyways, it seems like this board (whether it's set that way or whether it's a limitation) will only ignore in that it will not show you the message content. The person's thread/presence in a thread is not affected. I'd prefer that any thread started by an ignored person not show up in the message list, since that person starts nonsense threads on a daily basis, but oh well.
July 10, 200718 yr Ok, so nearly a week with nary a reply. Sorry Firefoxx for the lack of response. Most mods are probably like me and have no experience with the Ignore function as we do not use it. Offensive, nonsense, or serious... we have to see all posts by all members to effectively moderate the forum. Apologies again for not providing an answer, but thought you deserved an explanation. This is all the information I can find regarding the "Ignore" function: "When you add a user to your ignore list, any posts they make will be masked until you specify that you wish to read them. You may not be able to ignore users if they are in a member group which doesn't allow them to be added." Not a lot of detail unfortunately. Try experimenting with it a bit. Put someone on Ignore and then look at the results. Can you still see the name and topic, but not the content ? Also, it seems in a lot of these cases, you may have to clear your cache (and cookies ?), then log in again for the changes to take effect.
July 15, 200718 yr You cannot read the posts, but have the option to with each individual post - fair enough. Done a lot of reading and don't like the circus here at times either. It's always the same people who do it.
July 15, 200718 yr I don't know any forum where you can prevent someone's presence from showing. Personally, unless someone is harassing you I don't see why you can't just ignore them and skip over their posts. Part of life is sometimes seeing/hearing things you may not necessarily agree with. What is "anti-news" anyway?
July 16, 200718 yr Author It's a similar reply to the results for the search about the ignore function that I did earlier, in other words, that nobody really knows what it does, as few people use it. As I found out, it only makes it so that I don't actually see the post content. Any posts and articles from the ignored person still show up, they're just blank. I agree with Kerryd that the description is VERY uninformative. Anti-news is basically just posting news (or articles, from other sources) that basically shows only the negative side of something, and the positive side of its opposite (or competitor). Now, real unbiased informative posting I can deal with, and biased posts on an occasional basis I can also deal with. It's the daily posting of "this is bad because of this" "or this goofed up" that I'm fed up with, and it takes up space on the article list. That's why I don't want to see the post that's started by the ignored user, it pushes other posts to the second page.

Sometimes, in a thread a member may quote part of a post by an ignored user and if you wish you can then easily read that particular post of the ignored user while still keeping him on your list of ignored users. Quite useful. -- Maestro The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

There is the odd story which isn't terribly important, but I haven't noticed any bias - not in the articles, maybe in the comments.
July 17, 200718 yr Author bruceboy, I didn't even say that I was talking about the news section. I don't read the news section. I'm talking about news posts in normal forums.

July 29, 200718 yr Sorry Firefoxx for the lack of response. Most mods are probably like me and have no experience with the Ignore function as we do not use it. Offensive, nonsense, or serious... we have to see all posts by all members to effectively moderate the forum. And boy, aren't you guys glad you can read all my posts "When you add a user to your ignore list, any posts they make will be masked until you specify that you wish to read them. You may not be able to ignore users if they are in a member group which doesn't allow them to be added." This last line I interpret to mean member groups say like, Super-mods, admin etc... Perhaps the persons posts you are trying to block is a moderator?
August 1, 200718 yr Author No, just a regular user. As stated above, it's just how the ignore function works. It doesn't block posts from showing up in the thread list, but it does blank out the content of the ignored author.
