A French man wanted on a European arrest warrant for fraud and money-laundering worth over 369 million baht was arrested in Pattaya at 10:30 AM this morning, February 22nd.

On February 20th, Chonburi and Pattaya Police received notice from the French Embassy in Thailand that a fraud suspect, Julien Luc Marc Aubourdier, 43, had entered Thailand to evade a EU arrest warrant.

Aubourdier was reportedly connected to an international criminal network that operated under the guise of a sports car company, which falsified documents for tax reimbursements valued at over 369 million baht.

He must have stood out in the world renowned family friendly resort.

Did he stay in Thailand on ED visa? This practice should be stopped as soon as possible!

The link says he entered Thailand 3 times and his 'Visa' expired early January.... he was on overstay.

Not sure when he first ran from Europe or came to Thailand but no mention of an ED Visa.

Am puzzled, why do people think they can hide in Thailand? Is it possible when hotels update the police who is staying, overstay or not? Passports are needed for so many things here. Renting a room without identity must be hard. I really don't understand how they expect to stay anonymous.

Well it appears criminals  can enter quite easily, and despite the odd news articles of them being caught, I suspect there are many more simply getting on with living. The other factor, is often when they are caught, it is not by police efforts, more often somebody reports them, and there are many years of overstay on their record.
