From link to OP (to explain any confusion regarding which vehicle was carrying the German tourist)

Three passengers were in the minivan and identified as two German tourists, Mr. THOMAS D., Ms. ALEXANDRA D., and a Thai tour guide....................................The SUV driver ................................fell asleep at the wheel before crashing with the minivan in the opposite lane.

RIP Mr. Thomas and condolences to Ms. Thomas.
