webfact
Daily News Thai Caption: Back from the dead! A story of a lovesick teen's suicide attempt that relatives and police believed had been successful was at the top of the news on all channels in Thailand last night. But after rescue arrived to cut down and take the "corpse" away a pulse was detected and he recovered. This after a relative had already booked the temple for his funeral. Daily News called it "unbelievable" in their headline and a "miracle" in the body of their report. The young man had tried to hang himself but after Sawang Boriboon rescue arrived on the scene he opened his eyes, raised his hand and shook his head. One TV news channel said that he was "not ready for Yommaban" - that's the mythical "Lord of the Dead" who receives the deceased according to Thai legend. The drama played out in Pattaya after Nong Prue police received word of a fatality in a room by the railway tracks in Moo 9. The teen, given the assumed name of Toon, had used a telephone charging cord around his neck. Evidence showed that he had been on the phone when he tried to kill himself. He had "small talk" buds in his ears. Picture: Daily News Police took evidence from relatives, noted the victim was cold and had no pulse and instructed Sawang Boriboon to carry on. As they cut the cord to release the body they got an almighty shock as he showed he was still alive. Muang Hospital was called to pick him up after first aid was given. Relatives rushed in to speak to Toon but he didn't reply. Tears just welled in his eyes. His grandfather said that he had gone out to buy "pa tong go" (a fried breakfast snack) yesterday morning. He called his grandson but got no response. When he touched his body he was really cold. On hearing the confirmation from police that he was dead he called other relatives and the temple to book the funeral. He expressed his shock and delight that his grandson was still in the land of the living. He suspected the suicide attempt was over a girl. He added that Toon liked to keep himself to himself. Police said they were in shock as the body was cold and had no vital signs such as pulse. When the young man recovers they will interview him to inform their inquiry. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2023-03-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. ikke1959
Death is irreversible....and a cold body doesn't mean he was dead... Even no pulse could mean that becayse he was cold the heartbeat could be very slow...or maybe they did not feel properly..I am happy he still alive, and if people learn to talk about their problems, there can be solutions and there is no need to commit suicide.. Especially young people .. they have a whole life to go and things can change.. don't give up so easily... Just left him hanging while they had a natter with the relatives and got round to checking his pulse, then calling in the foundation guys while he continues to hang there? ???? Most of those Muban docs are not worthy the paper of their certificate. They'll give you only a paracetamol whatever your symptoms are, the witch doctor of the village has a better success rate. 1

RichardColeman
Joking aside, This is actually a very scary story - it shoes that PC plod is willing to potentially let someone die as they have absolutely no clue what they are doing.

Probably didn't want to ruin a perfectly good phone charging cord. Got to get priorities right. Edited March 4, 2023 by phetphet
