A GOP war on 'woke'? Most Americans view the term as a positive, USA TODAY/Ipsos Poll finds

Featured Replies

Republican presidential hopefuls are vowing to wage a war on "woke," but a new USA TODAY/Ipsos Poll finds a majority of Americans are inclined to see the word as a positive attribute, not a negative one.

Fifty-six percent of those surveyed say the term means "to be informed, educated on, and aware of social injustices." That includes not only three-fourths of Democrats but also more than a third of Republicans.

Overall, 39% say instead that the word reflects what has become the GOP political definition, "to be overly politically correct and police others' words."

How I view 'woke'

Like every other totalitarian movement, what some call liberalism and others more recently often describe as Cultural Marxism has developed an ideology which its adherents use to justify the imposition of tyranny on the society they seek to overtake. The ideology of America’s contemporary totalitarian left can be called wokeism.

The four intellectual pillars of wokeism are:

1. Anti-white racism disguised under the euphemism social justice.

2. Rejection of traditional morality, which is primarily carried out by the promotion of sexually deviant lifestyles such as homosexuality and transgender. In a truly surreal inversion of reality, they paint traditional morality as immoral by charging it with being homophobic, transphobic, and similar terms.

3. Environmentalism based on the notion that it is desirable and possible to arrest climate change.

4. Intense hostility toward Christian religion, which they negatively paint as patriarchal, intolerant, and oppressive.

4. is a bit of an odd one, 'cos the wokes love Islam even though it's more extreme and way more homophobic and anti-women's rights than Christianity.

It just means more distractions. "Look over here! Not there, now go back to saleep".                          Sow fear, animosity and division. Distort and subvert original representations, intentions and meanings.

Has worked for millennia.

Climate change, tax cuts, abortion, election denialism, Ukraine war, vaccine, mask mandate etc. GOP is an unpopular party that will never win if the election is based on popular votes. Their own hope to to win by the the medieval relic electoral college which is also unpopular among general population.

Strange then, that they WON the popular  vote in the 2022 mid terms.

This American's view?

Woke = Progress.

And you can't stop progress, no matter how perjorative a word you use to frame it.

How can "educated and aware" not be considered as a positive? Oh, wait....

Not a general election but still GOP underperformed in 2022 House election especially in seats that have candidates with extreme views on abortion and the 2020 election.

The probability would be like winning the lottery 9 times in a row. That doesn't mean nobody else won it.

Proof that republican illiteracy is a thing. Home schooling has a lot to answer for.

I like it when someone lays out an argument sensibly, whether I disagree or not, and that is then followed by people who clearly disagree but cannot lay out logically and sensibly why. Their response is to play the insult card, and thus lose the debate to any reader that is undecided. But their sense of having won the debate still exists, that is woke. Of course nothing will stop "woke", demographics and the great dumbing will see to that.

His problem is that the member in question rarely (I'm being generous) provides links to back up his arguments.

That’s the problem with right-wingers/conservatives/evangelicals: they think their own view represents that of the vast majority. But it (almost)never does…..

Turns out in this case 56% of Americans (which is a majority, and not just the loony left) disagree with you:

“Fifty-six percent of those surveyed say the term means "to be informed, educated on, and aware of social injustices." That includes not only three-fourths of Democrats but also more than a third of Republicans.”

Do you have a like to the survey?

Don't think they care as they are performing to their captive minority audience for the purpose of grifting and partisan loyalty that help them win in the electoral college. GOP is simply not interested in developing popular agenda. They can survive just by catering to their base. Trump has shown that unpopular candidate with little interest in public policy can still win. America politics is an embarrassment.

I like your opinion so much .

I had to look up the meaning .I found one site , urban dictionary  that describes it basically started out as a social justice euphemism and then it was recklessly taken over to assert they have a moral high ground and their opinion  is correct while rejecting any criticism !
