Factories Producing Fake Thai Jasmine Rice in China Shut Down

BANGKOK, March 17 (TNA) – Three factories, producing counterfeit Thai jasmine (Hom Mali) rice in China were shut down as Thai authories will intensify public relations campaing to promote Thai jasmine rice certificate mark on the packages of Thai genuine jasmine rice among Chinese consumers.

 

Deputy director-general of foreign trade department Manatsanith Jirawat said those factories used rice grown in China and added food additives to make it smell likeThai jasmine rice.

 

The factories in Auhui were closed and fake rice was seized.

Bought some Thai Jasmine rice the other day from Big C, my missus even said that it was suspect, looking at the grains and smell after cooking.

The quality was very poor.

Wouldn't any rice import, other than from right next to Thailand, be suspect ?  How could you possibly import rice from China and make money in Thailand?

well that's their problem and nothing to do with Thailand -- not unlike all the knock-off's made it Thailand , but guess that's different.

Well two wrongs don't make a right, and of course the Thai rice producers will not want these knock-offs on the market.

think you will find it's rice being sold in China not Thailand, hence my comment - their problem not Thailands.
