A prominent pro-democracy activist currently ordained as a monk said he did not report to the military service call to show his opposition to the mandatory military conscription and that he would be willing to meet the consequences in court.

“When I was 18 years old, I had taken into account many considerations and I came to the conclusion that a mandatory military conscription is against human rights which is why I have announced since back then that I will never take part in the process,” said Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal, currently known by the monastic name Phra Jaranasampanno, in a letter sent to Thai Enquirer.

Netiwit became a monk in July 2022 and his critics said he did it to escape being called up to the army.

he whole conscription should be abolished. Boys who want to join the army can subscribe and the others should be drugs convicted instead of going to prison they should be obliged to join the army for 2 years..

That solves the drug problem, how?
